Problem with leg_detector, only publish legs on the topic visualizer_marker

Im running the leg_detector in a simulated enviroment and i dont know why, when i run the leg_detector, it does not detect anything, it publish in all the topics but empty. The thing is that in the topic: Visualizer_marker, it detects the legs of the person, but only the legs (it print the LEGS in rviz)

problrm about legdetect input message

I want to use the ROS people package in Indigo [https://github.com/wg-perception/people ],
I launch the legdetect file [https://github.com/DLu/people/blob/master/leg_detector/launch/leg_detector.launch],
and give the basic laser scan message.
I dont konw why the node didn't work, can you give me some advice or give me your using launch file .thank you

Enable tests

When I catkinized this package, I wasn't able to get the tests working. Given PRs like #30, tests which can be run automatically would be helpful.

can not install package people_tracking_filters

I run the command colcon build to install people_msgs. However, I got error as installing people_tracking_filters

My OS is Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS, my ROS2 is humble
As reading the above message, it sounds like orocos-bfl was not found. But I can not install the orocos-bfl as well.
As I run colcon build, I got the error:

I'm using Ros-melodic & Ubuntu 18.04,and I saw a same question in issues , but I do not understand the solution "rolling it back".

face_detector freeze at imshow.

Hi there, I'm using face detector to detect faces and got a strange problem at cv::imshow.

At first I use face_detector on ros kinetic against opencv 2.4.9, it works fine, but when I trying to use ros-kinetic-opencv3 (version 3.2.0), it get freeze at cv::imshow() in line 799 of face_detection. If I comment out cv::namedWindos() at line 235, then the opencv image windows can show the first image and then get freeze at the second image.

Set do_display_ to false can make detector run normal, but it's not the best solution. I get stuck on this problem about a week and hope someone can help me out. Thanks

Cascade File haarcascade_frontalface_alt.xml

Moving from ROS Hydro to Indigo on the PR2 robot (via Clearpath Robotics upgrade), face_detector did not work.
I have purged and reinstalled through apt-get and used git clone.

When running
$ roslaunch face_detector face_detector.wide.launch​
I get
[ERROR]: Cascade file /usr/share/opencv/haarcascades/haarcascade_frontalface_alt.xml doesn't exist.

I have found the file at the following locations.
$ locate haarcascade_frontalface
/opt/ros/indigo/share/OpenCV-3.1.0-dev/haarcascades/haarcascade_frontalface_alt.xml
/opt/ros/indigo/share/OpenCV-3.1.0-dev/haarcascades/haarcascade_frontalface_alt2.xml

Is there a solution to this other than sudo cp?

Training new legs

Hello!

I would like to create a new training file. I didn't found a documentation about the legs training. I just found train_leg_detector.cpp to compile and run.

Firstly i would like to know what type inputs and files it take in parameters. the data input could be just a bagfile of my lidar?

Second, should i run the trainer with all arguments ?

Exemple : ./trainer --train file.bag --neg file2.bag --test file3.bag --save

Have u some suggestions to make a good training?

orocos-bfl absent compile error melodic

When i compile on melodic i have the following message

When i locate orocos-bfl i have the following result

roscd: No such package/stack 'orocos-bfl'

When i look in the wiki i am told that orocos-bfl in included in the melodic package under bfl
i fin a lot of files under /usr/share/doc/ros-melodic-bfl or /usr/share/doc/ros-melodic-bfl.

but roscd ros-melodic-bfl or roscd bfl gives
No such package/stack ....

It is looking that bfl is ther but not available ?

leg_detector launch files point to wrong map_laser files

The file filtered_leg_detector.launch tries to include:

<include file="$(find map_laser)/lfilter.launch"/>

Which does not exist in the current version of the map_laser package from the hydro repositories. The correct include would be:

<include file="$(find map_laser)/config/lfilter.launch"/>

The shadows.launch has a similar problem:

<rosparam command="load" file="$(find map_laser)/filters.yaml" />

Should be

<rosparam command="load" file="$(find map_laser)/config/filters.yaml" />

to make it work with the current version of map_laser.

Namspace issue with nh_.resolveName

I think I'm having an issue with the use of nh_.resolveName messing up the face_detector's ability to subscribe to specified topics while within a namespace. See the info below:

Notice that camera_info is the only properly connected topic in the mismatched bunch. I believe this is due to the fact that it's one of the few topics not filtered by nh_.resolveName: face_detection.cpp#L249

Here is the launch file that works for the simple simulated turtlebot in gazebo, yet not in the robot_0 namespace I'm importing it into without overriding default any args:

Face recognition (identification) after detection

Hi all, has anyone done this? I am using the OpenFace and its ROS wrapper. This wants a 2D image but I just want to pass it the ROI / bounding box where the face was first detected (plus a little area around it).

The messages output from this package are the 3D coordinate but the visualization part of it has an ROI / bounding box. Should I change the message from this package to also output the ROI or is there an easier way?

What is dataset to train random forest of the leg detector?

I would like to know what kind of dataset you used to train random forest of the leg detector.
Our AGV-like robot often recognizes a pillar as legs wrongly.
I am wondering if some parameters and/or LIDAR position need to be tuned somehow.
Information on the training dataset is really helpful for this kind of debug.

Could you please add short documentation on the dataset?

leg_detector kinetic rtree issue

I observed @DLu started porting leg_detector to kinetic by changing CvRTrees to cv::ml::RTrees.

The new OpenCV 3.0 RTrees class does not have direct replacement members for load(), predict_prob() and get_active_var_mask() which are used in leg_detector.

I am unaware of the efforts going on to put those functions in OpenCV 3 or the efforts on modifying leg_detector to work with CV3 as is.

@DLu are you currently pursuing this actively or know about an effort in this direction? I might be able to contribute in my spare time, but I would rather not dive into it if someone is close to solving this issue.

Not able to run leg_detection.

I am working on leg_detection. I am using Ubuntu 14.04, ros-Indigo, with a turtlebot. whenever i run:

roslaunch leg_detector leg_detector.launch

I am getting the following error:

[WARN] [1466630966.002926837]: MessageFilter [target=odom_combined ]: Dropped 100.00% of messages so far. Please turn the [ros.leg_detector.message_notifier] rosconsole logger to DEBUG for more information.

I did go through the old questions related to this error in ros answers and changed my fixed_frame from:

odom_comined to odom

when i changed my fixed frame and ran:

rostopic echo /camera_tracker_measurements

it outputs nothing. can someone help me with this?

people_tracker and leg_detector use different message types

Trying to run the people_tracker together with leg_detector yields the following error:

I have been building people_msgs in dashing from source, but it'd be fantastic to have them available via debian install. Is there any chance for a Bloom Release of the people repo in the near future? Thanks!

Filtered leg detector has missing dependencies; map_laser package is installed in a weird way.

ROS Melodic; Ubuntu 18.04.06.

  • The leg_detector works well on my system but has lot of false detections.
  • So I decided to try out filtered leg detector, but it has a dependency on map laser package.
  • Installed the package using sudo apt-get install ros-melodic-map-laser and it worked succesfully.
  • Got couple of errors as a result

ERROR: cannot launch node of type [map_laser/filter.py]: Cannot locate node of type [filter.py] in package [map_laser]. Make sure file exists in package path and permission is set to executable (chmod +x)

-- Managed to solve it by sudo cp //opt/ros/melodic/build/map_laser/filter.py //opt/ros/melodic/share/map_laser/ since I figured rospack find coudnt find the python file as it looked only inside the share directory.

Connection between face_detector and leg_detector

It is hinted in the leg_detector wiki page that the leg_detector can be seeded with input from the face_detector. However, the output from the face_detector on /people_tracker_measurements_array is people_msgs/PositionMeasurementArray even though the wiki page for face_detector syas that it should output people_msgs/PositionMeasurements on /people_tracker_measurements.

I guess the leg_detector could easily handle an array in a for loop in the peopleCalback.

Random Leg Probabilities due to Incorrect Copy of Features

With the current kinetic version we were not able to get reasonable leg probabilities.

I looked into the changes since OpenCV and found a major bug in https://github.com/wg-perception/people/blame/kinetic/leg_detector/src/leg_detector.cpp#L731
that was introduced with #53

Here float values are assigned to uchar[i].
This messes up the whole feature vector and thus the classification becomes basically randomized.

Also the probability calculation looks wrong to me.
Right now it is: 0.5 - fuzzy_value/num_trees
As fuzzy_value is between the classes -1(rejection) and 1(leg) the resulting probability would be between -0.5 and 1.5.

[Issue] OpenCV Error: Assertion failed

I am using R200 RGBD camera by Intel along with UPboard with ROS Indigo and OpenCV-2.4. I have modified the launch files according to the topics published by the camera and it does detect faces but it crashes every time with the following error:

I observed that this doesn't happen only when it is trying to draw the rectangle on the image but it happens also when there are no faces detected and consequently no need to draw the rectangle. I have tried both things that are to install the package from the binaries as well as building it from the source but in both the cases I am getting the same error. Right now, I am only running a launch file and subscribing to a topic from the terminal itself without using any script.

Has anyone else faced a similar issue? What can possibly be an issue?

im using melodic

leg probabilities are different between Kinetic and Melodic

We found that detected results by leg_detector are different between Kinetic and Melodic in our internal test.
It looked that bugs pointed out in #67 about leg probabilities remain in the Melodic version. We think that the probability calculation in leg_detector.cpp(L735-737) is wrong.

As results, probabilities take values between -0.5 and 1.5.

So, we want to fix as below.

After we fixed this bug as the above, we got almost the same results between Kinetic and Melodic in our internal test.

Release 1.0.12 (or higher)

1.0.11 was made in 2016, but it didn't seem to have reached rosdistro (as of today 1.0.10 for Indigo and 1.0.10-1 for Kinetic). Can we make a new rosdistro release soon?

Under currently available binary (1.0.10) some launch files are not runnable due to the fix #33 is missing.

Also I strongly suggest to use different version number schema between Indigo and Kinetic, since they are to be released from separate branches (ref), e.g. Indigo and Jade are same branch for now so keep 1.0.x, and for Kinetic 1.1.x.
