Restrictions on Name and Logo use

I do not grant permission for the use of the name "Better Clouds" or its logo for publication of derivative works.
Derivative works must have a clearly distinct name and logo to avoid confusion with the official "Better Clouds".

Examples

  • "Better Clouds Forge", is too similar and can be confused as an official publication for Forge.
  • "Better Clouds Reforged", this is fine, as "Reforged" is a common term for unofficial ports to Forge.
  • "Better Clouds (Unofficial)", if this is where your imagination ends, this is also fine.

better-clouds's Issues

Modrinth version labels are wrong

Just a small thing ;)

On the modrinth page the newer updates have confusing labels.
1.2.7 for 1.19.2 and 1.2.7 for 1.19.4 have the Fabric 1.20-1.20.1 labels, which confuses me and mod updater like prism launcher. Theese labels need to be corrected to prevent automatic downgrades through mod launchers.

Multiple Layers?

As the name suggests, I think it'd be really nice to see more of these clouds in different layers, similar to how Complementary Reimagined's second cloud layer does it. Something like positionable at 320-511, 512-etc..

Celestial objects emit penetrating ethereal glow.

Describe the bug

The clouds have this effect of appearing to scatter the moon and sun light, which is very beautiful, however that occurs even when they aren't/shouldn't be visible.
When blocked by vanilla weather fog (rain & thunder):
2024-01-10_01 35 48

or by a giant wall of solid rock:
2024-01-10_01 44 40

Also causes issues with mod(s), such as:
Caelum Refabricated, which adds a seperate moon cycle, thus causing a desync, where the actual moon has no light scattering cloud halo and instead a mystical glow appears [where the moon once was].
2024-01-10_02 09 57

Also, sth which is more of a feature request ig:
When used with Distant Horizons, clouds render infront of LOD chunks, which makes looking into the distance, especially with zoom mods or a spyglass, very weird.

Also Id ask you to add more twinkly star options

Feature: Color/opacity adjustments for time of day and weather

Having some control over the colour and opacity of the clouds for different times of day and weather events would be next level!

I can see that being quite difficult to implement though, so some hard coded tweaks would be my next thought:

  • The clouds look quite blue at night, could they be desaturated more towards white?
  • During rain and thunder could they turn dark grey? At the moment if opacity is low they sort of disappear.
  • During sunrise and sunset they look awesome towards the sun, but it would be cool if the clouds away from the sun caught some of the colour.
  • The clouds look amazing during a clear day, so no issues there :)

Visual bug with Distant Horizons mod.

Describe the bug

The clouds become transparent in the middle of the screen.
And I also have the same issue with the Lighty mod

To Reproduce

  1. Install listed mods (I must stipulate that I was forced to include Nvidium, Sodium and its add-ons, because otherwise, the RenderDoc capture would freeze):
  2. Join in the world.
  3. Look on the Horizon
    ...

Logs

Here is the MC log
And here is the RenderDoc capture.

Screenshots

And I also should say that increasing or decreasing the Render Distance of the chunks, the "transparency area" also changes.

Here is the screenshot with the 12 chunk Render Distance.

And here with the 32 chunk Render Distance.

Clouds are too bright when using Complementary Shaders

Describe the bug

As said above, the clouds are very bright and don't adapt to the weather.
I can't seem to change this behaviour, hence this issue.
This problem occurs both on Windows and on Linux with proprietary Nvidia drivers.

To Reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior

  1. Install Complementary Shaders
  2. clouds are too bright

Expected behavior

Clouds aren't as bright and their color and opacity adapt to the current weather.

Screenshots

Expected Result, with rethinking voxels shader:

2023-09-27_18 27 21

What I get with Complementary Shaders:

Clouds only render when shaders are enabled

I have enabled the "always render" and tried my best, however the clouds just won't render on shaderless. they render beautifully with shaders, but won't render at all without them

Incompatibility with Create/Flywheel

Clouds aren't rendering when create is loaded

Minecraft version: 1.19.2

Fabric api fersion: 0.76.0
Better clouds version: 1.2.8

Stars in the End

Would be nice if there is an option to enable twinkly stars in the end dimension

Crash on start-up when using 1.17.1 version

Description

I can't proceed to the Mojang loading screen due the sudden crash when clicking the play button, instead I get this short crash report I posted down below. It seems to be a java issue which confuses me because I had java 20 installed which is way above the minimum Fabric requires from me. I then deinstalled java 20 and installed java 17 instead but I still get the crash report. I don't know what to do anymore, maybe it's an issue from my side completely as for me everything that has to do with changing java versions properly is a big hassle or maybe it's conflicting with the other mods I installed.

API for modifying cloud and coverage formation speed

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I'd like to modify the cloud and coverage formation speed from my mod, Realistic Sleep, while players are sleeping.

Describe the solution you'd like
It'd be nice to have an API to do this, having a class api.BetterCloudsApi containing methods to set the u_time uniform would be awesome.

Describe alternatives you've considered
Currently I'd have to mix into Better Clouds to change the u_time uniform.

Ilumination from moon shifts position while walking

The camera bobbing animation that plays while walking causes the illumination from the moon to shift around and appear in the wrong position. This only happens while the animation is playing, when it stops the illumination returns to the correct position.
Compare the two screenshots:

Correct appearance Incorrect appearance
2023-05-28_15 11 47 2023-05-28_15 12 01

The left screenshot shows it as it normally appears, while standing still. The right screenshot shows an incorrect appearance caused by the camera bobbing animation. The issue does not occur when the camera bobbing animation is disabled.

Extended clouds with "Extended clouds mod" to work

So currently Better Clouds look better than Vanilla ones but clouds are still in the Vanilla area and don't extend that far. Could there be support for "extended clouds" mod or built in option to have more clouds in the distant.
Thanks

Transformation into a full blown weather improvement mod

I can't help but look at these volumetric clouds and wonder what they would look like in a better weather type mod, such as supercell thunderstorms, tornadoes etc.

Have you considered doing something like this? There is a massive weather community online and within Minecraft who would appreciate a better looking alternative to the weather and tornadoes mod by Corosus, especially since he barely has time to work on it despite it being one of the most popular Minecraft mods of all time, garnering millions of downloads and views on YouTube in its hayday when it was still being updated.

Who will relight that spark?

Clouds don't appear to work in custom dimensions

I have installed the mod on my client where I am running several custom dimensions with biomes for resource gathering. The clouds render properly in the overworld but don't appear to render in any other dimension

Would it be possible to have a setting in the config to set dimensions where the clouds should appear?

Mod menu error with quilt

Mod menu fails to bring up settings for this mod and labels an error.
image

I haven't tested with fabric, but I assume this is a quilt thing.

After breaking blocks, sometimes clouds render in front of blocks

This is a bizarre, inconsistent issue that's a bit annoying to reproduce, and which only lasts for a split second. Often, after breaking blocks (especially in an enclosed space with torches), the cloud layer will render even when it should be completely obstructed by blocks. This is really jarring and frankly freaked me out the first time I saw it. Reproducible using only Better Clouds, Fabric API, and mod menu.

I'm able to reproduce the issue fairly reliably by making an enclosed underground space and just placing/breaking a bunch of torches and other blocks.

Visual bug?

2024-01-11_06 46 17
(the trees are cut off)

strange line appearing the colour of the sky. This only happened after I installed this mod. also I'm on a multiplayer server
the thing only appears when I look to a certain direction
its blinking so sometimes its not even there but it certainly keeps coming back. doesn't appear when indoors or inside a cave
might be mod incompatibility or something

"Failed to load config screen"

Just as the title says, the mod doesn't load with a config screen, and mod menu says to report it here.

The error in mod menu says "Java.lang.RuntimeException: Mixin transformation of dev.isxander.yacl3.gui.AbstractWid get failed". Idk what it means, hope you do :L

If you already know of this issue, sorry that you got another complaint and hope you can fix it soon :)

Clouds disappear when settings graphics quality to "Fabulous!"

Describe the bug

When setting the graphical quality to Fabulous, the clouds stop rendering.

To Reproduce

  1. Set graphics to fabulous with betterclouds enabled.

Expected behavior

Clouds continue rendering regardless.
