Welcome to Flexible Survival

Flexible Survival, or FS for short, is a text-based RPG written in Inform 7. It is the largest project ever made in Inform, featuring hundreds of extensions, unique art, and a team of over 20 writers and coders.

What is FS?

FS is an adult text RPG that focuses on themes of transformation and related topics. You can find just about any kind of fetish or kink in FS, featuring content like your standard furry creatures, to more intriguing and exotic transformations like foxes made of latex, or girls made entirely of goo! There are over 250 unique forms in Flexible Survival, and over 100 NPCs to interact with.

All the while, FS still manages to be a cohesive survival experience. You have to make sure you are fed and hydrated, while simultaneously making sure you stay sane in this strange, nanite-fueled apocalypse.

Anyone is welcome to contribute to FS! If you're interested in writing content for the game, editing existing content, or programming new systems and mechanics, there's more than likely a place for you on the team! Vialalldrop not working.

Clicking the link or typring vialalldrop is failing to register that the vials exist and drop them. Looking at the code I think the fix is as follows.

Edit: Posted wrong code. Looking at vial drop and vial drop all the only difference I can see is the line
"continue the action;" and any reference to actually removing vials.

"You know some stallions just came by to talk to me while you were gone, and they seemed surprised I got out, they said I had some potential or something." He says with a slight smile at the thought of the stallions, before shaking his head and rubbing his forehead with his changing hands, "Something still doesn't seem quite right though..." He says with a sad and confused sigh. His expression brightens however as you pull out the intricate silver necklace you went to all the trouble of finding. "This, looks so familiar," He mutters as you hand it to him and he runs the necklace over through his hands absently, before stopping to read the inscription on the back several times, his equine lips moving slightly as he mutters softly to himself, before blinking and looking at you.
"Now I remember, we were captured.. and they brought us here to make us like them.." Onyx says with a slightly panicked look on his partially formed muzzle, "And I can't believe I almost forgot that and gave up, but what about Diana, did you find out what happened to her?" He asks nervously, as if afraid to hear the answer. His shoulders slump slightly when you explain that his girlfriend is now well on her way to being a happy slutty mare like all the rest, though he does perk up slightly when you tell him she said he should escape with you if he could. He seems ready to go rushing to her rescue for a minute, before sighing and giving up when you explain just how many mares there are in the area with her. Sighing Onyx admits that he is pretty sure that he can't actually bring himself to fight any of the more dominant equines right now, and with some persuasion agrees to follow you out of the stables. It takes a bit of work for you to distract the two guards outside, but you manage to keep their attention long enough for Onyx to slip out unnoticed. Once free of the stables, you lead your new and slightly unhappy new equine companion back to the safest place you know if in this crazy city, breathing a soft sigh of relief as the library comes into sight and you can both rest and relax for a bit.

Grey Abbey Library
Books, and a computer or two. The computers would be more useful if there was power in the building. You're still not entirely sure what knocked them out, but they're very out now. You came here because you knew there was a bunker in the basement. It's kept you alive, so far.

Graphics

This is probably not the best place to put this, but I have lost access to the email I used. Would it be possible to add the graphics used into this repository? If not, where can I find them?

Larissa Detector Quest - Run-time problem P49

This error happens every game if I attempt to speak to Larissa after scouting 50% of the map. Multiple saves and versions affected.

known but unreachable locations after "load game"

After I moved to a new version using "saveword" and "load game" Philip has been moved into my lair as it should be.
But now I have "Pig Pen" in the known places, although I cannot navigate there as it does not seem to be a fasttravel anymore(?).

Not a real problem, but might be irritating to some players. :)

Hunting issue

I am having trouble hunting for certain creatures. I do not know if you are already aware of this issue. When I hunt for a Yamato dragon or centaur it hunts for the dragoness or the mare. I have downloaded the latest file and created a new character to see if it was just my save. If you are already aware of the issue and if it is any other creatures and you know, then I will wait for the fix to come out if it has not been fixed already. Thank you for your time and this great game.

A/an

It looks like we attempted to change a/an so that it works with variable proceeding text. This doesn't appear to work in the released version.

Missing from Update

some things listed in the update, like Kobold Gang, and Kyle, are nor present in either the online play or the downloadable story file

'bottle water' error

In Scavevents, Tiger Den, and Main Storyline, the 'water bottle' item is listed as 'bottle water'.

This was brought to my attention when trying to turn in the supplies for Chase, the tiger. Talking to him with > 10 food and water never resulted in the dialogue to progress triggering. Please investigate and fix.

Online play, release 57, with Quixe requires extra enter after "look storage locker"

Hello. I'm looking over the code as an example of a complex Inform 7 game. Thank you for open sourcing the work.

I notice at the start if I do "look storage locker" it seems to not do anything on Quixe. I have to press [enter] key a second time before it shows output. Is this a bug in the current build of the game, or in Quixe, etc? Or is this an intentional behavior to have to press [enter] after clicking on hyperlinks? If I free-form type "look storage locker" it seems like a bug?

Though probably reproduce using other methods, I can verify this happens each time in this chain of events

1, start new game
2. Gender: Female
3. Gender Lock: Cunt Boy, start as lock
4. Go up out of bunker
5. Use Trixie Cheat Code
6. Turn on Unerring Hunter
7. Hunt Beach
8. West, then Down, then south, then east to WIld Fringe
9 Hunt shark warrior
10. Agree to reward him
11. Ride him or suck him off gives same error.

The same thing occurs selecting all default settings, not turning on the unerring hunter cheat, and doing it though the regular hunt commands

Wyvern Orgy Bound Crash

For some reason in the version I downloaded today after a certain number of actions inside the bound state the game hard crashes.

I'll provide my save file in-case it might help pinpoint the problem.

`load game` command does not restore body types with spaces (or backticks) in the names.

Typing load game (or doing recite and pasting in your savewords) does not not restore your character's body part types anymore. Whatever your body looks like in the currently running game is retained after 'loading' the game again from the save word.

If it matters the char in question has the "slutty dragoness" body type and I am playing in Gargoyle on a linux system. All the other save data is correctly loaded, and it was also correctly loaded in a very old version of the game I was playing until I re-downloaded recently. The "zag" interpreter does not work either.

"succubus" body types are restored, but "Slutty`Dragoness" and "Herm`Hyena" and "Parasitic`Plant" types are not.

Tanuki Shrine quest impossible to advance with female gender banned

The shrine 'nuki demanded batcubus milk, but I've banned both females and hermaphrodites. I have been exploring the warehouse district for an hour or two, looking for an event that would give me it (like the event for finding the honeycomb for Elijah if you've banned females), but there is none, so it's now currently impossible for me to advance in the quest.

Doran Error

In the following passages:

"Soon thereafter you cry out in bliss, supple passage tightening against the dragon's tongue[if cocks of player > 0], cock[smn] erupting into the open air, staining your crotch and the ground with your seed."

"It's not long before you finally cry out in bliss, supple passage tightening against the dragon's tongue[if cocks of player > 0], cock[smn] erupting into the open air, staining your crotch and the floor with your seed."

I see two [if ] statements without [end if]s. Since I can't properly guess the original purpose, I'm asking someone who knows to tweak this.

Missing content

When talking to Gerty in the College library his talk options don't come up with any text. Example, you select talk and then an option 1-4. After typing Y or yes or selecting yes it doesn't display anything and just screen clears back to the bar with the actions.

Case sensitive filename problems for Figures causes problems with Inform 7 Release

The Github source has filenames that are not precise matches. On Linux systems this causes a lot of problems with release builds reporting missing figures.

Notice the "E" in "Evil" is not the same for the Inform reference as it is in the disk files.

Sonny Quest Progression Bug

Hi,

I've encountered a problem progressing the quest-line with Sonny. I've come the point where I'm required to learn how to make Manicotti, but I can't get Francois to help me with that. So, I made use of the Debugging Tools and looked at the file Sonny.i7x to see what I was missing.

When I was importing my progress, I could read:

Restoring Number SonnyFood.
DEBUG -> VarName "SonnyFood" restored to "1".
Restoring Number SonnyQuest.
DEBUG -> VarName "SonnyQuest" restored to "0".
Restoring Number SonnyRelationship.
DEBUG -> VarName "SonnyRelationship" restored to "6".

When I approached Sonny, I could read:
DEBUG -> SonnyRelationship: 6, HP: 2 <- DEBUG

In Sonny.i7x, I could read:
instead of going to Bone-Appetit while SonnyFood is 1:

So, it seems that I do fulfill the necessary requirement to encounter a certain event at the Bone-Appetit, alas it never happens. I only ever get to talk to Francois as usual, no special events occur except the occasional enemy encounter when entering the store.

While I'm not familiar with the programming language used here, I did notice something with the above line of code: the usage of the word going. Most programming languages avoid using redundant commands, so I assume that going and navigating are not the same. Considering that the Bone-Appetit can only be reached via navigation, maybe going should be replaced with navigating in this instance.

Omio conversation skip conflicting logic

In Flexible-Survival/Kaleem mcintyre/Researcher Studio.i7x : line 52
Logic of "Have a long chat with Omio?" is inverse of "Y=skip Convo, N=hear Convo".
Suggest "Y=hear Convo, N=skip Convo" then swap if/else contents.

Missing content

It looks like the data for Athanasia is missing. The github link on the wiki is broken, searching the project returns nothing, and she seems to be missing from the game itself except for her initial encounter.

Edit: never mind, the wiki just needs to be updated.

[Enhancement] Add additional testing commands

itemcheat is an action applying to one topic.
understand "itemcheat [text]" as itemcheat.
	
carry out itemcheat:
	repeat with x running through grab objects:
		if the printed name of x exactly matches the text topic understood, case insensitively:
			increase carried of x by 1;
			break;

This code will allow the player to get any item accessable in the game

pregtest2 is an action applying to one topic.
understand "pregtest2 [text]" as pregtest2.

carry out pregtest2:
	repeat with X running from 1 to number of filled rows in table of random critters:
		choose row X from the table of random critters;
		if name entry exactly matches the text topic understood, case insensitively:
			impregnate with name entry;
			break;

this code will allow the player to be impregnated by any impregnatable critter in the game

infecttest is an action applying to one topic.
understand "infecttest [text]" as infecttest.

carry out infecttest:
	repeat with X running from 1 to number of filled rows in table of random critters:
		choose row X from the table of random critters;

this code will allow for quick infection testing

Tweaks to 0 sanity human body ending.

Currently, part of this ending reads:

"The occasional lone soldier always lets their guard down seeing as your body is still human. This makes them easy prey and you dominate them, changing them into more part human infected. As you continue making your way through the city you see more and more part human infected."

Which sounds really, really awkward. I suggest some parsing to change it up.

"Hunt for treasure" outputs nothing once the treasure has been found

While looking for the hidden pirate treasure for Nermine, you get to fight a sea dragon. When the fight is over, you get no clear indication that you've actually found said treasure at all, and any subsequent use of the "hunt for treasure" command don't even output anything.

savewords broken by removed critters

Over at the flexible survival blog someone noticed that the safeword cannot be applied because of a non existent entry in the critters table.
I guess it is because some of them had to be removed to get around the current compiler issues. Maybe a dummy line could be added to the table to make the safewords work again.

Squid doesn't have gills.

You can transform into a squid, but you don't get gills meaning you cannot swim out to the Bouncy Castle.

"Use maximum indexed text length" fatal error

On line 24 of the main story it reads as follows;

Use maximum indexed text length of at least 2000.

However this was changed for Inform 7 (build 6L02). (From the Inform 7 change log:)

The rarely-used use option:

Use maximum indexed text length of at least N.

is now renamed:

Use maximum text length of at least N.

The maximum, of course, applies only if the text is in its substituted form.

If the above line gets changed from:

Use maximum indexed text length of at least 2000.

to

Use maximum text length of at least 2000.

Then the line will work for Inform 7 (build 6L02). However this line will no longer work for Inform 7 (build 6G60) and results in the following error:

You wrote 'Use maximum indexed text length of at least 2000'  : but that isn't a 'Use' option known to me, and needs to be one of the ones listed in the documentation.

Incorrect Gender Infections during Wyvern Orgy Bound State

Infections from wyverns during the wyvern orgy bound state use the matron's gender rather than the orgasming wyvern's gender to influence the nature of the infection. For example, if the matron is female and the wyverns in the orgy are male, than genital infections by the male wyverns will increase cock size and decrease cunt size rather than the other way around.

Relatedly, if you lose a cock or pussy while it is in use by a wyvern, the wyvern will continue to use the nonexistent sex organ (there is no game logic to either remove/reposition such wyverns or to keep sex organs that are currently in use).

FlightList is incomplete

I'm currently a dracovixentaur and for some reason I can't fly up to 'The Clouds' from the 'Campus Belltower'. I guess, the same applies to dragontaur's as well.

After a brief scan of the code, it seems, that the FlightList in Inform/story.ni isn't used anymore and instead has to be added to each infection file as

	add "Dracovixentaur" to the infections of FlightList;

and Stripes/Dracovixentaur.i7x and Stripes/Dragontaur.i7x both are missing that line.

Ending for dying of hunger/thirst

Right now, a normal ending plays out before the text *** You have died of hunger. *** or *** You have died of thirst. *** appears.

This doesn't really make sense, since it implies the player still lives. Perhaps a special, replacement ending for these scenarios would be warranted?

import slow

I understand technical limitations and all, but is anybody at least trying to optimize the import process? 435kb should not take 5 minutes to process. I also noticed how there is a LOT of redundant variables -- this is especially obvious when looking at the game tables (although it could be because I'm used to javascript and prefer to keep character data with the character object).

Negative HP from Bargain Bin

Sorting Bargain Bin, was biten twice in a row - 38 HP changed to -12.
"Reaching deep into the bin, you find something seems to bite you..." and -25 HP with no boundary check.

Most of Kitsune Scenes are blank

as the title says trying to have sex with Kitsune as a Female leaves all but the Submissive Kitsune scene doesn't work and you do not receive any kitsune transformations at all regardless of what scene you used, for some strange reason pregnancy works just fine though, not sure whats up with that

CV and UB content of Sam is not accessible

When interacting with Sam as a dracovixen that has been given shrinking shrooms, the shrinking shroom oral and anal vore scenes are eventually unlocked, but the CV and UB scenes are not presented in the menu (even with "More Vore" and "More UB" set, although those flags appear to not be checked in the source except as a gate for the start of shrinking shroom content).

I went looking through the source code to try and figure out why this might be happening, but as far as I'm able to tell, the CV and UB menu options shouldn't be gated by anything that isn't also gating the oral and anal vore scenes; sadly, I'm not able to pinpoint the bug's root cause.

Below is what Sam's menu looks like for me (with a male, non-taur PC). I've been downloading FS from this URL, and the issue exists in the most recent build as of this issue report. (For context, f11d08b is the commit that adds the content in question, and the content in question was added on August 4th.) If having my save file and/or (as a reduncancy) my .gblorb would be helpful, let me know how you guys would like those files to be sent.

Perk/Merit exclusions missing

While perk Egg Sack excludes _Sterile, _Internal Genitals, _Internal Testicles, _No Balls and _Humble Balls_, none of the excluded exclude Egg Sack. Is this intentional or was it missed when adding them?

I also noticed that Compatible Gender is marked as a Vanity Perk, says that it requires 2 Vanity Perk Points, but when taking it, you use 2 normal perk points.

Commit Error

I think c42416d is a commit error, since it just deleted what the accepted pull did.

Unbirth doesn't produce a viable pregnancy anymore.

After you go through the initial granting of the unbirth ability and UB the husky you become permanently pregnant and it doesn't progress or result in birth.

Edit:
The whelps can still impregnate you, but nothing else can.

Conflict within the plains blank choices

Several choices from "Conflict within the Plains" just wind up with blank choices that does nothing at all and allows the event to repeat, for example selecting to give in when you select option 1 when deciding how to approach the situation or give yourself to the centaur on option 2

Minor Danny Mallrat sex scene problem

In the female "fucked in the pussy" sex scene with Danny Mallrat, at the end of the scene, he makes a comment about "maybe I even knocked her up" - but he will never make this statement in a scenario in which he did impregnate the character, because the "[if player is impreg_able]" check happens after the "[fimpregchance]"
This is super minor, i know, but ive got my kinks and him not saying it when he did it is really spoiling my immersion.

General Coding Issue

So, inform provides us with a very nice way of using the table of monsters/randomcritters/etc without looping through them a bajillion times that I just discovered.

Its in the docs under 16.3:
choose row with a name of "Victoria" in the Table of Recent Monarchs;

Instead of writing:

repeat with y running from 1 to number of filled rows in table of random critters:
choose row y in table of random critters;
if name entry is "Mental Mouse":

We can say:
choose the row with a name entry of "Mental Mouse" in the table of random critters;
choose row with an apples column of "2";
choose a random row in the table of random critters;

It's much easier to read, write, and supposedly provides a speed boost (unconfirmed).

Also, slightly related, using RULES as a testing command lists a metric ton of rules executing every turn--labeled by number. That isn't really helpful, so maybe we could promote naming them?

as an everyturn rule: -> as an everyturn rule (this is the check alexandra state rule):

power line restoration is out of order.

Maybe I'm nitpicking and should just fap, but as an electrician could tell you, when the power is down, NEVER go near a broken live powerline. In this game, you should fix the power lines BEFORE repairing and starting the plant. Unless you are very, very highly trained, or very, very stupid, it makes more sense to fix the tower first, but this game does not allow that. It makes you ENSURE the line is live before reconnecting it, which is suicide.

Restrict 'use' command when typed by itself.

The use command without characters after it should probably not use an item. Typing 'use' by itself after using 'take all' in the bunker applied the medkit, which was a bit frustrating since that's in limited supply.

If possible, can you implement a prompt saying 'Use what?' or something similar? I doubt people would utilize the 'use' command by itself for most situations.

Spelling correction (tiny thing): Wavey -> Wavy hair.

"Wavey" hair should be "wavy" hair.
Might be annoying when dealing with importing old saves, of course, but I instantly noticed it, and even my spell checker in this text input field notices that "wavey" is incorrect.

(it's all contained in Inform/story.ni at the moment)

Weird issue with saves

So I am having a bit of a weird issue, I like to keep my exported files in a specific folder so that I know what to do with them at any given time, this has, for the most part, worked without any issues, but as of the last few updates the saves for Flexible Survival have been behaving... erratically, as in, they behave like the saves themselves don't exist, I can't see them in the folder, I can't interact with them, be they Export or saved games.

The strange thing is, when i try to restore a Save I can see all of these, but it is as if the save folder exists in a separate dimension where all the saves are, which is not supposed to happen, even more so since I DELETED flexible survival in all parts from my computer including all folders for it to check if that was the issue, and yet, I can still see the save files that were in a folder that were supposed to be gone upon uninstalling when i reinstalled and checked things, I am.. to put it mildly, confused as to what is going on and are wondering if you can have some answers as this does not seem normal to me.

saving meredith

I'm unable to save meredith from the red kangaroos (I would automatically lose) after completing the Leonard's Pride quest. reverting to an earlier save where I had only completed step 1 allowed me to save meredith.

With perk "Vore Predator" vore opportunities do not seem to trigger on a loaded savegame with more than 60 hunger

Using first WinGit 134 and now 135 on Windows 7 and 10 with glblorb files from this page (via Save-as on link "Story File"),
I have run into this issue in the last three releases that were announced in the blog.

Steps to reproduce are about like this:

  • Acquire "Vore Predator" feat in the "Inner Predator" scene.
  • Continue playing. Vore scenes seem to trigger the more frequent the greater the PC's hunger is - as expected.
  • Save with <60 hunger.
  • Load the game later; if the first vore scene triggers before hunger raises above 60, all is well.
  • Save with >60 hunger.
  • Load the game and try to trigger a vore scene without pressing hunger <60 via conventional food.
  • Starve.
  • Load the previous game and consume food to reduce hunger notably below 60.
  • Try to trigger a vore scene before hunger exceeds 60 again.
  • If that works, the game will continue normally.

If a quick fix cannot be implemented, it would be nice if the "Inner Predator" event could receive a "Later" option, ideally allowing to take the vial into the inventory rather than smash it.

In case that further influences affect this, here are my surrounding settings:

  • Vore Predator feat
  • UB Predator feat
  • Vore menu: Full Vore, Full UB, Choice to vore: automatic/player (both tested), Hard vore frequency: High (56%), Choice to UB: player

Note that the UB Predator feat seems to be affected by a similar issue, but the trigger is not clear to me and it is less game breaking.

Here is a savegame exhibiting the issue. To use it:

  • Try to hunt for "Drone Wasp" (confirmed as edible) until you starve.
  • Reload and consume 2x food from the inventory.
  • Try to hunt for "Drone Wasp".
  • Retry if hunger raises above 60 before a vore scene triggers.

Observed result:

  • Any tries without eating the food will fail.
  • Tries after eating the food have a ~50% chance to succeed.

Minor Alexandra flag issue.

It would seem Bad Dog Alexandra's Fertility Treatment flag isn't properly working, after checking with debug it neither achieves the 30% fertility increase flag, nor adds 2 to the MaxPups flag.

It might have to do with the flag being called "Fertility Treatments" when listed but checked as "Fertility Treatment" for the AlexandraPregChance & MaxPups flags.
