That's a good suggestion. I'm currently on the fence about what to do with cocotb-test. One possibility is to rework the python files in the tests so that they can use the cocotb makefile flow without having cocotb-test installed (relatively simple to do...basically just have to move all the pytest/cocotb-test code inside a try/except block - but the problem with this is that pytest will silently skip all of the tests if cocotb-test is not installed). In that case, you only need cocotb-test installed if you want to run the tests via pytest. But, I think the direction I'm moving in long-term is to drop the makefile flow completely, but for that I need a nicer way to run single tests that permits overriding parameters, in addition to running (groups of) tests via pytest. Once I get that piece sorted out, then I will update the tests and the readme accordingly.
