Hey there, looks like you found something interesting

Most of the work I'm doing currently involves time-series and spectral analysis of AGN data. This could involve a number of different topics:

  • AGN time-series analysis
  • spectral analysis
  • reverberation mapping
  • dynamical modeling
  • image decomposition
  • AGN sample studies

I'm making a number of packages to help with this analysis too, so feel free to look around and use anything you like.

Issue with Matplotlib backend

In Python 2, the matplotlib backed by default is interactive. However, using this backend tries to plot figures interactively (even when plt.show() isn't used). This makes python look for a $DISPLAY variable, even when there isn't one, and can cause runtime errors.

The workaround I've found is to set the environmental variable MPLBACKEND beforehand:
export MPLBACKEND=agg

I've tried using matplotlib.use('Agg'), which doesn't seem to work. There's probably a better way of doing this, which I'll have to look into in the future.
