I believe this line in your spree_product_zoom.css is causing my problems:
*= require store/spree_core
I am overwritting the core styles, and the line above is cancelling that out by re-loading core styles again.
Is there a way I can set the order in which they are loaded? It's either that, or fork the extension and delete
the above for my project.
Issue I really need solved is how to set image style to :large.
How can I do that?

Let me try removing that from the extension and see what happens. It may be the case I don't need it. It is there when the extension is generated by default. I'll try to get this done in the next day or two when I have time.
Also I'll look into adding a config setting for the image style.

I have removed the line mentioned in your comment above. As far as I can tell it is not needed for this extension.
