You might consider using glfw / pyglfw, it's lighter (but no font support):
https://github.com/rougier/pyglfw
of SDL2, or pyglet:

I've heard about PyGLFW and was interested...
I might consider using that...
pyglet I don't like... it has it's own standards over the GL standards...
I'm still wanting to use PyOpenGL with the default standards... heh
PyQt also has QGL, but from the examples, it's alot slower than PyOpenGL...
and to top things off, I'm working on getting PyStream working with the new version of my program, so I kinda need decent GLSL support :P
all I really need is a nice cross-platform window manager... heh
anyways, I'm thinking I can render QFonts as textured planes into display lists...
(I'm already doing exactly that in the example above with PyGame)
if not, I'm hoping the enhancements to this library will be done. :)
no rush or anything... the system that needs this is very far from started. XD

If you're going into GLSL, you better forget about display lists.

huh? I thought you could merge them...
alright then... I guess I could get the pixels of the text instead...
thanks :)
