covid19italy's Introduction

Hi there, I'm Rami

I'm a data science manager and an open-source contributor. I mainly write code with Python, R and bash, occasionally I do HTML, CSS, and currently I am learning JavaScript and Julia.

I enjoy teaching data science in production, MLOps, and Docker. You can find some of my tutorials on GitHub (see tutorial sections below) and Medium. I recently released a course - Data Pipeline Automation with GitHub Actions Using R and Python with LinkedIn Learning.

Here is some of the stuff I enjoy doing:

  • Time series analysis and forecasting
  • Put stuff in production
  • Work with data and APIs
  • Machine learning
  • Bayesian statistic
  • Data visualization
  • Maps

covid19italy's Issues

label translation error

Hello,

I believe there is a problem with the data labelled daily_positive_cases. In the original Italian dataset, it is variazione_totale_positivi, which means total_positives_variation (I assume with respect to the previous day). As a matter of fact, in that column there are several negative values, which make sense only if this is a difference. I thought it could be useful to let you know.
Thanks-Stefano

plot_ly issue

Rami,
Thanks for another excellent package.
I used your example code for the three plots in my Shiny dashboard. http://www.bcloud.org/e/ I shamelessly copy and paste your code from your readme.

One error I run into is the layout function after plot_ly.
Warning: Error in layout: unused arguments (title = "Cases Distribution by Region" ...
This is really strange, I get it work sometimes, but give me error other times.
I could not solve it thus I remove the layout section.
It could be because I am not using the most recent version of plotly package.

Detailed death counts per hospitalization/confinement?

Hi,

I'm fascinated by the clean data you've shared, especially with the distinction you make between hospitalization/confinement status of the active cases. However, the cumulative death toll is reported regardless of the hospitalization status of the patients.

That's very interesting info and can be used to estimate the difference in case fatality ratio of patients with different hospitalization statuses and give a hint about how hospitalization decisions (home confinement, in a regular hospital bed, or in ICU) are made across Italy.

Is that data available, and will it be added to the package/repo any time soon?
