ku-frontpage's Introduction

Hi folks

I'm a software developer with a PhD πŸ§‘πŸ»β€βš•οΈ in Computer Science from Niels Bohr Institute, Denmark. πŸ‡©πŸ‡°

I love to tinker with various components and watch them work together in harmony. πŸ‘€

Using data to back up my claims is crucial; I want to know why I’m doing what I’m doing. πŸ“ˆ

I am competitive and want to be the best at what I do, which is why I'm always learning. 🀺

Previous work places include Elastic and Shopify.

ku-frontpage's Issues

(Optionally) leave the margins alone

I'm happy that someone fixed up the ku-forside mess so I don't have to do it myself all the time. I even added a reference to ucph.dk!

However, I don't think ku-frontpage should (permanently) modify the margins of the document. While I can disable it by commenting out the following line, I would prefer a less invasive approach.

\RequirePackage[a4paper, hmargin={55pt, 55pt}, vmargin={2.8cm, 2.8cm}]{geometry}

I do not mind tiny margins on the front page, but they look horrible for the main text. I think ku-frontpage should be a package solely for getting a KU-themed front-page (as the name suggests), and leave the job of crippling LaTeX with Word-isms to another package.

Wrong shade of red and alignment discrepancies

As per http://designguide.ku.dk/ku/om_design/logo_og_farve/fakultetsfarve/ the university red is RGB(144, 26, 30) but the logo used in ku_logo.pdf seems to use RGB(163, 0, 29).

The Microsoft Word templates here http://designguide.ku.dk/ku/skabeloner/word/rapporter/ seem to use the correct colour but the logo is aligned slightly differently on the page.

http://designguide.ku.dk/ku/om_design/logo_og_farve/logoplacering/ has information about the correct alignment of the logo and university name.

Empty frontpageimage fails

When leaving the \frontpageimage empty, the compilation fails. It appears in the README that it should be possible to leave a command empty and thereby disabling it, but this seems not to be the case.

License

My understanding of the GPLv3 is that if I use this package in a tex document and distribute the compiled pdf, then I will have to make my source code available under the GPLv3 as well. Is this intended? If not, would it be possible to license the package under a license that does not place restrictions on only using it with \usepackage e.g. the LPPL 1.3c (or perhaps the LGPLv3)?

I personally use the GPL in some personal projects as well, so this should not be taken as arguing against the GPL, but the manner in which ku-frontpage is distributed by KU on https://designguide.ku.dk/skabeloner/word/specialer/ makes me suspect that at least they might not be aware of this consequence. I also have the strong impression that fellow ph.d. students using ku-frontpage are generally unaware of it.

Every section is a subsection of a part/chapter called "Content".
This can be seen in different way. One way is by just looking at the pages, see the attached screenshot.
It gives rises to different problems. I do not know how to fix this, and I have to hand in my thesis very soon.
