beamerthementnu's Issues

Title shadowed by logo when using ntnu style 16:9 format

This is similar to #6 but not the same so I thought it deserved its own issue.

When using the NTNU style in 16:9 format, the logo with the circles in the upper right corner shadows the title.

\documentclass[screen, aspectratio=169]{beamer}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}

% Use the NTNU-temaet for beamer
% \usetheme[style=ntnu|simple|vertical|horizontal,
%     language=bm|nn|en,
%     smalltitle,
%     city=all|trondheim|alesund|gjovik]{ntnu2017}
\usetheme[style=ntnu,language=en]{ntnu2017}

\usepackage[english]{babel}

"simple" not localised

  • The motto is still only in bokmål
  • There is a different font from the rest of the slide
  • The logo/motto is not aligned with the page number

Possible solution: Use LaTeX to produce the text, rather than the backgrounds.

Compilation fails when adding biblatex in the package list

Adding \usepackage{biblatex} results in the following log file errors:

! Undefined control sequence.

The control sequence at the end of the top line
of your error message was never \def'ed. If you have
misspelled it (e.g., \hobx'), type I' and the correct
spelling (e.g., `I\hbox'). Otherwise just continue,
and I'll forget about whatever was undefined.

I've run across a }' that doesn't seem to match anything. For example, \def\a#1{...}' and \a}' would produce this error. If you simply proceed now, the \par' that
I've just inserted will cause me to report a runaway
argument that might be the root of the problem. But if
your }' was spurious, just type 2' and it will go away.

Runaway argument?

My plan is to forget the whole thing and hope for the best.

Done in the small example file. How can this be fixed?

Move repository to new org

I had a nice discussion with @VeroniMattia today about the future of this repository. Owing to the stars it already has and the general history (and forks), we would like to keep this history but also move to a more generic URL/collaboration style that is not necessarily depending on one person. So I just founed a small org (those are free here, too) at

https://github.com/orgs/ntnu-tex/

where for now I also invited you @martstr to be owner, since I think that will make It easier to move this repository there. It will have then a URL that is independent of who is developing this.
Anyone who wants to take the chance and join in on development is of course welcome. I will check the currently open issues here soon, to also clean the ones that are not in relation to the 2020 theme.

Problems with tikzexternalize

Hi, when I use tikzexternalize I get the following text over the tikz generated figures "includegraphics optimized away because it does not contribute to exported pdf". However, if I disable optimize using \tikzset{external/optimize=false} I get the NTNU logo over all my pictures. Any ides on what could be wrong?

Title is too wide in title page if style=horizontal is used

The title is shadowed by the NTNU name if style=horizontal is use. See minimal example under. This can be avoided by changing line 15 in beamerinnerthementnu2017.sty, such that width is adjusted depending on size.

\documentclass[screen, aspectratio=43]{beamer}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}

\usetheme[style=horizontal,language=en]{ntnu2017}

\usepackage[english]{babel}
\usepackage[style=numeric,backend=biber,natbib=false,sorting=none]{biblatex}

Upgrade repository: Documentation, Examples, name of the theme

I had a discussion today with @VeroniMattia and here is a short summary

  • We will only keep one variant, not multiple in subfolders
  • The variant will be the one with style files (resolved #14, now still in a subfolder).
  • The documentation should be extended to cover
    • A good introduction to get started using the theme including examples – one for each language at least – presentations to get started directly and which files to copy where – thought for beginners both of latex beamer and latex in general
    • A documentation of the available features for the intermediate user
    • A comprehensive technical documentation for the advanced user/developer
  • The documentation will be given as a presentation itself, since that can be used to illustrate usage of commands etc
  • We will move the URL of the repository (see #15), the old URL should forward to the new one for quite some time.
  • The style files will obtain a version number to track which version a user uses, but the name of the theme will just be NTNU without a year

Default math font aestethics

Personal opinion: The default font looks terrible in math mode, and anyone who uses this slide template in a presentation should be aware of this.

Using columns in 169 vertical format breaks left margin

Hi,
I noticed that the left margin is correct when using 169 aspect ratio and vertical style as long as you have no columns defined. If you use columns, then the left margin overlaps with the vertical blue bar. Is there an easy fix for this? At the end I add an example file that shows the problem.

Thank you!
Giampiero

Why making a one-file template?

Thank you for the template, it is very useful. However, it is not clear to me why making a one-file template. Beamer has a neat way to define all the style specific configurations in a theme file with the following advantages:

  • the only thing you need in the main tex file is to issue the \usetheme command, hiding all the complications away,
  • the rest of the presentation would use standard beamer commands,
  • it would be easy to change the style from the NTNU template to another without changing the main file,
  • the template could be uploaded to overleaf as one of the official NTNU templates, making it even easier to use.
    The current implementation, in my opinion, makes the main file unnecessarily complicated, scaring away people who are not so familiar with LaTeX, but would like to give it a try.

Is there any reason not to use a theme file to define the template? Thank you!
