hello-world's Introduction

hello-world

Are you a beginner? Send your test pull requests here! Someone will review (and merge) them.

If you're looking for resources to learn about web programming, checkout @jlord's hello-world content.

Not sure what to do?

It's hard to get started when you're not sure about what to do, so here are some suggestions:

  • Try adding a file in the humans directory with your username in the file title. For example, my username is muan, so I'd create a file named muan.html, like this. It can be any type of files you want, may it be muan.md, muan.txt, or just muan.

  • Add your username to human.txt.

  • (:+1: Bonus) Sort the human.txt, so the file is in an alphabetical order.

  • (:+1: Bonus) Add some fun content to your own file. Check out mine: http://muan.co/hello-world/humans/muan.html

Not sure how to do it?

  1. You should fork this repository using the Fork button on the top right, see this guide.

  2. Make your changes on your fork however you want. The easiest way is to make them through GitHub's interface. See this guide for details. Note that you should be on a url like https://github.com/your_username/hello-world when you follow the steps in the guide.

Problems?

Feel free to create an issue when you have questions.

Finally

This repository should be safe place for everyone to try things in. Be nice to each other.

If you're already an experienced GitHub user and wants to help, please add your username to the MAINTAINERS list, create a pull request, and I'll merge it after adding you as a collaborator, so you'll be able to merge pull requests in the future. Before that happens, feel free to review pull requests and comment when someone needs help.

hello-world's Issues

Add ways to make this repo more internationalized

  • Add translation welcome details to readme (pull out maintainer wanted and put them together in a contribute or help us section, maybe)
  • Have a go-to person assigned for incoming pull requests in each language, maybe

1 seems easy, we can just start with that.

Waiting on dead PRs

Hi guys, mainly @muan and @SubhrajyotiSen . At the moment, we have a lot of dead PRs, and by that I mean PRs where we requested changes but we have seen no response. How much time should we wait to close them? It seems reasonable to me to wait a month (from last update/response). What do you think?

Move user files to humans folder

I propose to move all user files to a subdirectory.
This should clarify the content and open an easy way to link those files on the main page by some little script.

Hacktoberfest policy

With Hacktoberfest starting, we will start getting a lot more pull requests, most of them being just placeholder PRs to qualify.
@muan What would be the suggested way to deal with the PRs this month?

I can help!

I'd be happy to help review PR's and answer any questions!

Also: I don't think we have permissions to add the i can help label ourselves, so we might want to think of something else.

Links on index & 404 page

Why not link to everyone's file in the humans directory?

Well. Now on the index page, we can only see the link to human.txt and some links to everyone's GitHub profile. If I want to see a page someone created in humans directory, it will be hard to find it. Why not write a piece of JavaScript to display links to pages in the humans directory rather than GitHub profiles.

Do you need a 404 page?

I found there is no a particular 404 page. If the URL is wrong, it will display the boring GitHub 404 page.

Fork and sync
