ChromeVox: Support for ARIA landmarks

ChromeVox supports jumping through the document via headers. It would be nice
if it supported jumping through the document by ARIA landmark as well, similar
to the support that NVDA has built in.

Talking Alarm Clock: General usage and UI problems using NVDA

Windows 7 x64, Talking Alarm Clock 1.3, Chrome 16.0.912.0 canary, and NVDA
snapshots and 2011.3 beta
Folliwing is when NVDA gets a true buffer to work with and can access the Alarm
clock UI:

1. Open the talking alarm clock from toolbar.
2. Unlabeled button which is the big clock button I'm asuming.
3. Tab and enable checkbox for alarm1, enter time in manually.
4. Close the clock with escape.

Expected:
The clock to actually save the time entered in the edit box.
Actual: text for voice alert, sound, and volumes all get saved except the time.

NOTES:
Sometimes (most of the time in fact), NVDA just says "document busy" when
opening the talking alarm clock from toolbar, and you can't tab or arrow around
the interface. This effectively means you can't change any options when this
happens.

ChromeVox: Cannot type into edit box

When navigating to next/previous edit box/object, it's not possible
to type into edit box, even after using CTRL+ALT+SPACE and ENTER.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. https://services.google.com/fb/forms/accessibilityfeedback/
2. navigate by edit boxes/object to box for description of issue/suggestion,
3. try to type,
Expected: characters should be entered and echoed
Actual: it does not work. Cannot type into text edit box
Notes: It's required that one TAB and SHIFT+TAB, at which point, it's possible
to type. It should be possible to type into edit boxes, even when one navigates
to it by edit boxes/objects.

ChroemVox: cannot select text in read-only areas, EG: website

Using SHIFT ARROWS, SHIFT+CTRL+ARROWS, and/or SHIFT+END/HOME will
select text, but ChromeVox will not provide feedback, such as text
that is being highlighted.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Google.com,
2. search for "ChromeVox",
3. navigate to first heading.
4. Try to select text (CTRL+SHIFT+ARROWS, SHIFT+END).

What is the expected output?
text to be selected and ChromeVox to provide feedback of text selection as it's
occuring
What do you see instead?
Text selection occurs, but ChromeVox does not provide any feedback

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Google Chrome 14 stable and 16 Canary
Windows 7 x64 and OS X Lion

Please provide any additional information below.
What's interesting is this works in Docs. In other words, text
selection/feedback works in edit text areas, but not read-only, which
there should be no difference.

Just wondering 'cause you guys have several reviews requesting the ability to
quick-toggle the extension.

ChromeVox doesn't function correctly on `file://` URLs.

ChromeVox only requests host permissions for `http` and `https` schemes, which
is a bit problematic when testing out local HTML files locally. I understand
that you probably don't really want to request `<all_urls>`, but I think it's
appropriate here (and you're doing it for the content scripts anyway... :) ).

ChromeVox: within multiline edit boxes, line/paragraph breaks are ignored and lines/paragraphs are double-spoken

Mac OS X 10.7.2 and Windows 7 x86
ChromeVox 1.16.0

Gmail.com basic HTML (standard has some serious accessibility and usability
issues);
ChromeVox+L, L for links list;
type "compose, ENTER, and ChromeVox+SPACE to click;
TAB to message body;
type/paste:
"Hello, this is a test. After ChromeVox navigates to the next line, it should
read that there is a blank line/paragraph, but it will not, and move onto next
paragraph/line containing text.

let's see how ChromeVox does when typing, reading, navigating, and editing.
Within this particular paragraph, ChromeVox will double-speak.

It should and will mess up badly."

CMD-UP (CTRL+HOME) to go to top of multiline edit box.
DOWN ARROW through text until you get to the bottom;
Expected: ChromeVox to navigate and read each line of text and paragraph/line
breaks.
Actual: ChromeVox ignores line/paragraph breaks and will double-speak second
paragraph.

Regression: No

Notes: Multiline edit boxes navigation, editing, review, and reading have
always been quite buggy and awful with ChromeVox.

ChromeVox: moving among group or object, interrupts itself

In Docs list or Gmail message list, changing navigation level among
group, object, and sentence will often result in ChromeVox not being
able to speak the unit, such as object or group. Instead, ChroemVox
will try to read the item that is in focus. This results in a lot of
verboseness, which makes it difficult to understand and know what unit
one is on/navigating to. This does not happen when cycling among
sentence, word, and character.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Gmail.com or Docs.Google.com
2. Navigate to message or document list
3. ChromeVOX+RIGHT all the way to character
4. ChroemVox+LEFT all the way to groups
Expected: ChromeVox to be able to speak navigation unit (group and object) and
identify the element
Actual: ChromeVox attempts to speak navigation unit, interrupts itself, and
speaks focused element
Notes: Buffers/priorities are overwriting itself

Add verbosity setting or get rid of it all together that would
suppress messages, such as "increasing/decreasing rate/volume". It's
not needed and extra verbosity, especially since it's possible to hear
the change.

Steps to Reproduce:
1: ChromeVox++, CTRL+-,
Expected: speech rate to increase, but not hear “increasing speech rate” or
decreasing speech rate” TTS messages
Actual: ChromeVox speaks “increasing/decreasing TTS messages”
Notes: This applies to increasing/decreasing volume/pitch as well. Please have

ChromeVox: Chrome page becomes unresponsive or ChromeVox dies

Windows 7 8x86
ChromeVox 1.16.0

Chrome 16 beta
Google.com
type "ChromeVox";
TAB to search button and ENTER;
ChromeVox+N, H to go to next heading several times rapidly

Expected: ChroemVox to be able to quickly navigate, read, and work with all
headings.
Actual: After about the fifth or sixth heading, ChromeVox will go absolutely
silent.

Notes:
1) Launching NVDA and checking Chrome, it shows that the page has become
unresponsive with options to kill page or wait. Selecting wait does no good and
kill pages works, but repeating the above steps result in same issue.
2) chrome://crashes doesn't show any crash log for this particular event, but I

Navigation through slide deck is buggy

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Go to
http://google-axs-chrome.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/developer/sydney_gdd_2011/temp
late/
2. Have ChromeVox turned on
3. Try navigating the slides with screenreader controls (down arrow doesn't
seem to work for me)

What is the expected output?

It should read all the text and change slides step by steop.

What do you see instead?

If you try and go through these slides with chromevox on, using CTRL-ALT and
down arrow only, you will notice how it jumps around randomly. For example, I
cannot currently get beyond the third slide - it keeps jumping back to the
first one. The slide layout changes, too, and we only see half of a slide.

Drop-down menu

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Navigate to a drop-down menu in a form (HTML SELECT)
2. ChromeVox reads (x of y)
3. Navigate to each value in the box.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

The expected outcome would be that x was the right position in the menu list
(whether hearing this is in fact necessary or not), however, the position
appears to be out by one - possibly because of the "search within" text at the
top of the list.

Secondly, I would hope to hear the options in the list - however, going up and

ChromeVox: Table navigation, no need for CV+T each time

Table navigation/review is extremely comprehensive, detailed, and
far better than even JAWS who has been doing this for a very long
while. However, I would like to suggest the ability when toggling
table mode, make it such that there's not the need to continually
press CTRL+ALT+T followed by the table navigation/review command.
Provided that toggle mode is enabled, it should be possible to use the
pure table navigation/review commands, such as:
CTRL+ALT+LEFT/RIGHT/UP/DOWN, CTRL+ALT+L/R/C, ,etc. without the need to
issue "table" command before it. While current model does have benefit
of being able to review by words/characters, the finer level of review
would still be possible by toggling off table mode and reviewing by
words/characters. I think this is really the best of both worlds and
would make table review/navigation much more efficient and effective.

ChromeVis default key config breaks text input in content-editable divs

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Press Shift+S/A/W/Q/C/X/P/O while trying to type in a content-editable div
(which is quite common if you ever want to capitalize the first letter of a
sentence with a word that begins with any of those letters)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected either better default shortcuts that don't interfere with common text
input, or for the key events to be ignored when a content-editable div is being
used.

Additionally, it should especially ignore these key binds when ChromeVis isn't
even being used. I know it makes an effort to ignore the keys when a form
field has focus. It should be able to detect when the current caret/selection
is a child node of a content-editable element.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
ChromeVis 2.4.4. It may cause this on other pages, but the particular page
where it came to my attention was Google Wave / Wave in a Box. It occurs with

ChromeVox Lois TTS is difficult to hear, comprehend, and use for any period of time

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Increase speech rate to max and change pitch
2. Navigate, review, and read Gmail, Google search results, etc for a while.

What is the expected output?
ChromeVox Lois or any TTS should be very clear, intelligible, and understood
within most environments.
What do you see instead?
ChromeVox Lois is very difficult to hear, understand, is not clear, distorted,
muffled, and awful.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Google Chrome 14 stable on Windows 7 x64
Google Chrome Canary 16 on OS X Lion

Please provide any additional information below.
This alone will make people not use ChromeVox or any Chrome web app. eSpeak
should be brought over. Alternatively, elloquence is preferred by most users
and would make ChromeVox adoption sky rocket.

ChromeVox sometimes doesn't read whole paragraph

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Go to http://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg21/docs/papers/2012/n3350.html
2. Ctrl+Alt+Down to the "Boost's range library" paragraph.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

The whole paragraph should be read. Instead, even in "group" mode, the
selection and reading stops at "auto", which is wrapped in a <code> tag.

I haven't been able to reproduce this in a small test case.

http://elly.github.com/docs/crypto.html has the same problem starting at the
"This example hash function" paragraph.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
ChromeVox 1.16.0; Mac OS 10.7.2

ChromeVox: Mac OS X keyboard UI and Docs

Mac OS X 10.7.2
Chrome 16.0.912.41 beta
ChromeVox 1.16.0

ChromeVox keyboard commands, documentation, and UI is from the perspective of a
Windows/PC or Chrome OS/book. There's a brief note of what the modifiers are
for Mac OS X, but the documentation, such as keyboard commands list/search,
even when brought up using ChromeVox on Mac refers to CTRL+ALT, whic are not
present, and it's not possible to toggle ON/OFF stick keys using INSERT are Mac
doesn't have an INSERT key.

Expected: Mac OS X ChromeVox specific/centric keyboard commands (documentation,
UI, and help), which use CTRL-OPTION and a way to toggle ON/OFF sticky keys.
Actual: Windows/PC and Chrome OS/Book specific/centric keyboard commands

Regression: No

ChromeVox Lois : reviewing/typing, CV will not indicate if character(s) are capitalized by making sound or raising TTS pitch

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Google.com
2. CAPSLOCK
3. Type away
4. Review text

What is the expected output?
With CAPSLOCK enabled while typing, ChromeVox should emit some kind of noise
indicating CAPSLOCK is ON. When reviewing text by character, ChromeVox should
raise pitch when encountering a capital letter.
What do you see instead?
ChromeVox is insensitive to case of letter(s).

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Google Chrome 14 stable on Windows 7 x64
Google Chrome Canary 16 on OS X Lion

Please provide any additional information below.
Without these two indications/sounds while typing and reviewing, it's
impossible to know if one is typing entire Docs, Gmail, etc. in all CAPS, there
are double-caps, and/or inverted CAPS.
