mr @necolas raised the issue that it might be shortsided to attach this to the blue beanie campaign.
i think that's a fair critique..
so one way around that is we keep the novelty name and branding for that one day to get eyeballs, but the following day transition it to a permanent home at like..
also necolas suggested maybe tongue-in-cheek slogan: "wear a beanie today, build the web tomorrow"!
along with #2 the content of the etherpad https://etherpad.mozilla.org/igotmybeanie needs some restructuring
if you have any ideas, drop them in the comments below or something.
We've got some additional places for the community to learn about and provide feedback on what's landing in IE. Can we get this added here?
http://movethewebforward.org/#levelup
IE Platform roadmap - http://status.modern.IE (also on GitHub at: www.github.com/internetexplorer/status.IE)
IE Dev Rel on Twitter: @iedevchat
I am not sure where it should be though? "Virtuoso"?
The link on movethewebforward.org to HTML5 Please is pointing to http://html5please.us/ instead of http://html5please.com/.
The issue is applied to all languages.
I was browsing the js and noticed in controler.js
head = doc.head || doc.getElementsByTagName( "head" )[0] || docElem
is more weight than
head = doc.getElementsByTagName( "head" )[0] || docElem
for something that's executing once and being stored in a var it seems silly to html5 fork it.
Also curious about
//might need to wait until DOMReady in IE...
if( lastlink.nextSibling ){
head.insertBefore(lk, lastlink.nextSibling );
} else {
head.appendChild( lk );
}
I'm not sure of the lastlink.nextSibling
check, is order really important?
Can't it all be done via the head.insertBefore(lk, lastlink.nextSibling );
without forking for appendChild
?
hi, i very love this resource and want to make translation of it on my native language. Does it make sense for you and how i can contribute?
Something more can be added, for example:
Ideas are from www.whatcanidoformozilla.org . Although the website is for Mozilla projects, many of its tasks can help keep the web alive and accessible as a whole.
Seems like avatars.php file use old twitter rest api (v1 and now v1.1). As this file generete avatar links , page sections #learn, #ask4help, #helpothers, #feedback, #explore" and other don't work correctly (contributors avatars don't visible).

This site is awesome, but could be more awesome if we can direct feedback about a specific spec to a specific channel. For example, I just ran across https://plus.google.com/u/0/106759696088618829172/posts/BHbdaM9eed4 to which I thought, "Perfect! Some real life feedback on App Cache." So I went to movethewebforward.org to see how to give the feedback, and it wasn't clear.
I scrolled down to Give Feedback on Specifications, but I wasn't sure which mailing list I should send the feedback on App Cache to. There's a separate section on "File Bugs", but no link to the WHATWG or W3C bug database? (not sure if those are real things, apologies if I just made them up)
Specific feedback is to make it much more explicit on how to submit ideas/feedback on specific specs. Can the site be much more prescriptive?
Thanks for making this page!

Notable members include browser dev advocates, HTML5 and JS book authors, HTML5 game engine devs (CAAT, Crafty, Impact, Game Closure, etc.), and of course games developers themselves.
We also have a Web site under development that will replace the existing http://hashbbg.com/ holding page.
i had been thinking about BIGASS text. like ChunkFive or something. some textshadow on the whole thing
maybe use of jquery bigtext plugin https://github.com/zachleat/BigText
i think @Wilto said he was jumping on this.
We run BSc courses where we actively promote open web standards and tools (e.g. this is a core final year unit on our Web Technologies BSc). There are other Universities that offer the chance to get a computer science qualification whilst also engaging students in understanding and furthering the goals fo the open web - but I don't know who they are. May I suggest a section (or perhaps there's interest in a related site) that identifies such courses and institutes? We'd certainly appreciate the link and the opportunity to push more minds in this direction, and the additional potential to identify other academics with similar web-focus in their teaching.
Hi,
I work as Software Localization Engineer ( @MoraviaWW )
I am linguistic bugfixer so sorry for the details below :)
I plan on localizing your "en-US" index.html into Czech language "cs-CZ" and I noticed one thing:
Language code: xx-yy
xx = language
yy = region where it is used
Change "AR" to "ar-??" (whichever region it belongs to).
Change "CN" to "zh-CN" (which is correct form for "CN" which stands for Chinese Simplified).
"AR" in this case it refers to whole language (which is used in 16 regions).
Where "CN" on the other hand refers only to a certain region (there is 5 of them in total).
List of language codes, not really a complete one but you can get from it what I mean:
http://www.lingoes.net/en/translator/langcode.htm
"AR" in this case can be mistaken for example with:
"es-AR = Spanish (Argentina)"
"ps-AR = Pashto (Afghanistan)"
So this "AR" could use a "region suffix (yy)" at the end to determine in which reagion this language mutation belongs.
"CN" is only a region, there is 5 major regions where Chinese is used.
So this "CN" could use a "country prefix (cc)" at the beginning.
Be specific and use the proper form "language-region" therefore no confusion can occur like ever.
Dialects fairly differ so even a native speaker does not have to understand "his lnaguage" in other region.
Trust me "en-US" is different than "en-ZW" :D
Best regards
DANIEL
In the section "File bugs", please consider adding a link to http://a11ybugs.org This site is a community effort, related to browser bugs and very much in-line with the purpose of "Move The Web Forward". Suggested link text is "Help prioritize browser accessibility bugs".
the existing content https://etherpad.mozilla.org/igotmybeanie is rough and needs to be fleshed out, links added etc.
for now i think we can assume markdown.
ideas for images/diagrams welcome.
It references "IE10's platform previews".
IE11 was released nearly a year ago.
In the "explore" section (http://h5bp.github.com/igotmybeanie/#explore) the link to Coyier's article is referred to as "WebKit keyframe animation syntax" but that seems to be the old title (remnant in the URL). He now just calls it "Keyframe animation syntax". Which is obviously in keeping with avoiding browser-specific code. :)
Hello,
I for one, know every dev. should know english language perfectly but ... unfortunatley it's not always the case (look at devops_borat haha!).
Then, i suggest making translation of this site content. And i'll be glad to do it for french to start with !!!
But i let you guys decide how technically you'd want to deal with translated materials.
A translation folder and some mechanism to switch language ? Just tell us.
Merci de votre attention. ;-)
the content references a bunch of avenues of engagements.. https://etherpad.mozilla.org/igotmybeanie
it needs links for people to ramp up on things.. like IRC etc. so.. highly valuable resources for the calls-to-action are desired.
MS have shifted all of their developer discussion away from IE, to the new Edge resources. This has resulted in a few broken links on index.html (and possible other places?)
What about adding a link to Test the Web Forward? Maybe under the "Contribute to Test Suites" section.
I'd be interested in hearing "Success Stories" from the people that pledged to help out or gathering some stats on browser/OSS involvement before/after. I'm not sure what the most effective/streamlined way of going about getting this feedback is, but I'd be glad to help. If anyone has any ideas - put 'em in the comments below.

Right now it only looks for a hash but need it to search for a domain name too, so we can use simple hashes like #write #hack etc
from @kennyluck in #whatwg
I think you might want to mention the input box at the bottom of the HTML Living Standard. As far as I can tell, that's the simplest way how you send feedback.
I think it would be great to have some performance links, since (for me at least) delving into performance issues really forces you to learn the details.
For instance, I think its slightly old now but the article at developer.yahoo.com/performance/rules.html was one of the best performance refs I ever read, it was packed with links to great articles and reading the article while attempting to fully understand every word forced me to learn the HTTP spec, image optimization (and good ol' imagemagick), and like a week with apache modules and gzip.
Lastly, I think emphasizing performance somewhere would be great especially for those just starting out.
What do you guys think?
Chime in if I’m missing anything or you should notice anything looking off, guys.
Based on its repo and its mailinglist, it seems to have gone inactive circa 2012.
It's currently part of the "Open-Source projects worth your time" list.
I was in the middle of writing something for Smashing magazine about giving back to the community so I'll include references to this effort to help tie things in. I figure they both have the same end-goal anyway :)
At @divya's request, will hold off until at least the 30th before publishing (will have to ask Vitaly if that's cool with him). This should also give me more time to write. Woo!
Maybe some emphasis needs to be put on what hobbyist hacker means, or entails in the context of web development?
At least it seems to me, that, well, all the best webdev-ers are full time, as in, semi-permanently wired in / jacked into a computer, and are 'full time' at what they do, as opposed to just contributing a bit here and there for fun.
It also seems that to get real work done, a few entries in the MDN, and a few forks of your favorite repo, are not exactly hacking, they're just exploring / toying / messing, ie nothing serious
I think in order for this issue to be solved, a little more clarity & emphasis needs to be put on how potential / would-be developers can manage their time
regarding the subject, and what are best practices to being 'full time', as opposed to just messing around having lulz messing with code.
Currently the IRC Channels mentioned are:
"Freenode IRC channels: #html5 / #css / #javascript / #whatwg / #jquery / #yui / #dojo / #bbg (on irc.freenode.net)"
They even have movethewebforward.org in their topic.
Would be cool for them to be included too.
Obviously, the Twitter avatars aren't showing up in any on the sections. I'm about to start working on that part (starting in init.js) that makes the API call for the avatars. If anyone is interested in making this work and you have more time than I do, feel free to jump in. Comments here, please. :-)

mr @Wilto said "I wish there were more sites like http://developers.whatwg.org out there."
@benschwarz can you look at https://etherpad.mozilla.org/igotmybeanie and specifically the specs section..
i'd like to know if theres anything you think we can encourage people to contribute to, at this point.
I love the intention and mission with this site.
I wanted to suggest P2PU.org for inclusion on move the web forward. It is a great place that was created by the Mozilla School of Web Craft. A great place to go and learn with your peers and get feedback on real world solutions. Users also have the ability to create a class to teach.
I'd like to add Ringmark/Coremob tests to the "Contribute to Test Suites" section. They're at https://github.com/coremob/coremob-tests.
Any objections? If not, happy to submit a PR.
Btw, the IRC channel is pretty vacant. :(
see https://etherpad.mozilla.org/igotmybeanie L24-ish
We have some great examples of how, as a community member, to give a full exhaustive rundown of a feature..
And hidden in some presentations (and maybe a blog post here and there) are a list of properties that haven't been explored.
Let's get that full list in order. It's gonna have stuff like background-clip
, SVG blur filter, line-clamp
, text-overflow
etc.
Who'd like to take that on. You'll be identifying the areas of the CSS platform that the community will dive deeper into. :)
I'm not sure where it should be in terms of your "levels" but http://caniuse.com is indispensable to the html 5 developer. Please add it to morethewebforward.
I suggest under "Level Up!" - "Reference docs/wikis" as
So I saw the cute
<!DOCTYPE html public "i ♥ the web">
At first I was like aww.
But then I was like huh hmmm?
Now I am like:
http://dev.w3.org/html5/spec/syntax.html#obsolete-permitted-doctype-string
http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/#obsolete-permitted-doctype-string
Those specs state that the cute doctype is not a valid html5 doctype.
would be nice to have something more than our names... :)
unfortch twivatar is down (i pinged remy sharp about it) so we'll have to grab the URLs manually i guess.
We mention designers getting involved but don't seem to provide any examples of
I think both of those things could help encourage more involvement from "primarily designers".
So after launch we'll have to track down a handful of good examples (maybe Aza Raskin can be one) and work out how to weave them into the content...if everyone else agrees that this would be a valuable addition :)
Also, ways to help with work on features relevant to accessibility, or those discussions in HTML development, or writing about info developers need to know (like Steve Faulkner and Jason Kiss do)
looking at http://h5bp.github.com/igotmybeanie/ i feel like it could use some imagery to break up the wall of text.
@deathbearbrown i'd love to get your skills if you're interested..
you down?
Shall we have a table showing tools to explore new capabilities?
