External display not working
Hey, your guide helped me to install ubuntu gnome. (errors booting and shutting down are gone)
I however cant get my External display to work though.
To change AHCI/RAID on BIOS without reinstalling
This definitely works on both ways.
Pop!_OS
Hi, thanks a lot for this guide. I still had issues getting Ubuntu installed on my 13 R3 (installer refused to recognize my second m.2 drive), no matter what BIOS settings I picked, so I just want to mention that Pop OS from System76 works amazingly for me.
Literally all I did was turn off Secure Boot in the BIOS and turn on Legacy Boot Options (left everything else stock, including SATA/RAID settings) and clicked through the install wizard. It immediately recognized my second drive & allowed me to install to it.
Everything works out of the box: Nvidia video card, Suspend, all keyboard buttons, etc. One exception is brightness, but I'm using Redshift for that. Been running this setup for about a week now.
I know there are a ton of other Ubuntu flavors out there, but since most (none?) of them support Nvidia without a lot of jankiness, thought it worth mentioning. It's been amazing to have everything work this well, this easily...maybe it's worth a mention in the doc for others struggling through getting Ubuntu installed on their R3 :)
Brightness on Wayland
I'm testing 18.04 with Wayland and I have needed to do a couple of changes:
xrandr
does not work on Wayland, but this works great: https://github.com/udifuchs/icc-brightness (found here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=97883)- Using "Windows 2012" instead of "Windows 2009" in
grub
gets my brightness controls and suspend working when using intel graphics (i.e. nouveau is blacklisted, nvidia not installed for now). - With nvidia drivers installed but blacklisted, "Windows 2012" fails to suspend and "Windows 2009" fails to control brightness. Removing
acpi_osi
from the config gets both brightness and suspend working, but causes thelspci
freeze. - Using
acpi_rev_override=5
(from Bumblebee-Project/Bumblebee#764) instead ofacpi_osi
gets brightness, suspend, and bbswitch working without freeze.lspci
still fails with the GPU off and suspend fails with the GPU turned on fails, but I find this to be tolerable.
No dash, or icons after installing Ubuntu 16.04
I was just trying to install Ubuntu 16.04 which worked fine a couple of months ago. The thing is, the entire thing does format but when I try to log into my Account only the cursor works and nothing else, I cannot open a terminal or anything for that matter.
Nvidia 367 Causes suspension issues
I've installed Ubuntu LTS today using your guide, with the 367 drivers that you recommended (before the update bit).
However these give issues with recovering from suspension.
A colleague used 378, and did not have this issue.
After updating myself, the issue has also disappeared.
It might be best to update the guide to use 378 as the recommended version?
alienfx
did you found a way to controll the lights of your r13 on ubuntu?
My webcam is not working!
I don't know what happened, but only recently I found that there is a webcam issue! I cant access webcam through cheese. Windows is just fine! It's all about Ubuntu.
Need to blacklist WLAN for make it works
I also need to add blacklist for WLAN like this:
rfkill list
then what I saw is soft blocked and hard blocked are yes.
So, I need to add `blacklist dell-rbtn' into /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
Solution for networking restart after supend
http://askubuntu.com/questions/761180/wifi-doesnt-work-after-suspend-after-16-04-upgrade
Open a terminal and type the following:
sudo nano /etc/systemd/system/wifi-resume.service
Now paste the script in there with a right click. Exit with CTRL + X and press Y to save. Now to activate it: sudo systemctl enable wifi-resume.serviceScript:
#/etc/systemd/system/wifi-resume.service #sudo systemctl enable wifi-resume.service [Unit] Description=Restart networkmanager at resume After=suspend.target After=hibernate.target After=hybrid-sleep.target [Service] Type=oneshot ExecStart=/bin/systemctl restart network-manager.service [Install] WantedBy=suspend.target WantedBy=hibernate.target WantedBy=hybrid-sleep.target
Typo in the brightness script
Small and can be figured out fairly easily, but you have eDP1
and it should be eDP-1
.
Thanks for taking the time to document your experiences and tips though!
Intel Skylake and Kabylake processors, update Intel Microcode/BIOS
Has anybody information regarding this problem? We should push for a fix that is independent of the operating system.
Not even detecting USB stick
Mine is a 2016 R3 with 960m. But the bios does not show the option of USB boot, just NIC boot. Any idea what might cause the problem?
