Branching

Hello everyone!!!! I was trying to help contribute to this. However, when I clone it to my computer then try to branch off I kept getting this error:

Please move or remove them before you can switch branches.
Aborting

I was wondering if there was anything special I was supposed to do before I branched off of master. Any help would be appreciated as I am looking forward to working on this projects.
