bashrc_helpers's Issues

Better emacs version detection

Current em alias setup is very ad-hoc:

if [ -f /opt/local/bin/emacs ]; then
alias em='/opt/local/bin/emacs -nw' ## quickly fire up emacs
elif [ -f /usr/local/bin/emacs ]; then
    alias em='/usr/local/bin/emacs -nw'
elif [ -f /usr/bin/emacs ]; then
    alias em='/usr/bin/emacs -nw'
fi

Often times, I find the system has multiple emacs versions installed. However, current logic is simply use the one that got discovered first. Ideally, I want to use the emacs with the newest version. This requires me to probe a fix set of locations, invoke emacs --version command, parse it, and set em to the emacs with newest version number.
