In case a job fails on a client, the server issues another instance of the job on another client and so on till a job succeeds on a client. The batch_process code downloads the output files from the 0th job instance, which might not be the instance that actually succeeded on a client. This leads to invalid output files being downloaded sometimes even when the job has succeeded.

It looks like there is an undefined variable i used whilst indexing app_names_from_batch_cfg.

Boinc will allow us to parallelise the running of many tests to get things like sets of simulations done quickly.
