Configuration file should let the user define keybinds, colorschemes, etc, without needing to recompile.
It should not feature a full language, only the ability to chain built functions using object verb syntax:

bind ctrl-p: select-block delete

When text is inserted or removed, marks should stay in the same place in the text

This can be solved by keeping all marks in an array, and updating text modification functions to update the marks position.

Unicode support has three main parts:

• Type conversion
  • Convert everything to wchar_t
  • Set locale properly

  • We need to know how many columns each character takes up (achievable with wcwidth)

  • Unicode defines graphemes as user perceived characters. utf8proc is capable of detecting grapheme breaks.
