Currently only searching most popular Stack Exchange domains. Would be better to figure out how somehow search against their Google CSE search (XML).
For reference, refer to official list of sites here: http://stackexchange.com/sites
Currently the custom filter is included in the query, and it's a bit ugly. Would be good to find some way of hiding the filter query somehow, or maybe even just redirecting to a different search engine.
Some alternative engines for consideration:
Right now we're only using (site:quora.com -site:blog.quora.com)
, since questions on Quora are (unfortunately) located at top-level paths like https://www.quora.com/my-question-here
Ideally we could use a filter like this:
('site:quora.com -site:quora.com/topic/ -site:quora.com/app/ -site:quora.com/profile/ -site:blog.quora.com -site:www.quora.com/careers -site:quora.com/about -site:quora.com/press -site:quora.com/answer/ -site:quora.com/prizes -site:quora.com/contact')
but apparently it also removes results with questions starting with those words.
Hi,
First thanks so much for forking this - the original version no longer works. I have tried your version - unpacked it, went to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions (obviously it wasn't USERNAME but my actual username) and within this folder I noticed all the extensions have odd random letter folder names. I went ahead created a random lettered folder name, within it in I noticed the others had a version folder - I created a folder name 1.0 within my new folder and then dropped all the files from within the downloaded extension folder into my newly created folder.
Path looks like this when I am done C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions\dfasadasdfmakfmadfasldlasdasdada\1.0\
The unpacked files are within 1.0 folder (_locales folder/html/etc)
Image below:
I shutdown chrome completely and re-open it. I check the extensions in options and don't see anything new. I then attempt a search - the discussion button option is not there under "more". I check the folder I created and the files are gone but the folder remains.
Am I missing something here?
Thanks Much
Normally when you activate a custom filter, e.g. for Discussions, you can disable the filter and go back to normal search by hitting the button for All (or Web?). This should also work when changing to Images, Videos, etc., but currently the filter remains in the query.
Using custom filters often results in redirects via https://ipv4.google.com/sorry/IndexRedirect?continue=http://www.example.com
