Even though "Removing the writeonly attribute will not clear an element’s write-only value flag. Once that flag is set for an element, it cannot be cleared." is true, it seems you can just as easily replace the <input>
. Perhaps it should specify a nonce you cannot access from the page?

Yeah, no worries. I've poked some folks on Chrome's password management team (Hi, @vabr-g!) in the hopes of getting them interested in this. If I can find someone to implement this kind of thing, I'll clean up the spec in the form of PRs.
