This term isn't really meant to be one for web developers; as with much of the spec, it's used when implementing the internals of a web browser.
So, I would not suggest discussing it on web-developer facing documentation.

@domenic Thanks very much for taking the time to respond. We would normally document limits such as not being able to have multiple picture-in-picture windows per browser tab. We'll leave the wording as is though if there is no better way of describing this "thing".
