3w6's Issues

Alternative MCU Packages

Hi! Thank you for your effort. I love the design idea. Can I just ask whether the QFN-44 is compatible with the PCB? TQFN-44 is rather hard to find where I'm at :((

Interested in getting one V2

I was trying to see if JLCPCB could make one, but they run out of TCA9535PWR...
Have you managed to order some V2? I am interested in buying a couple for myself. Thanks!

Can't get into bootloader

Hey, I got the v2 board assembled at jlcpcb, and did the MCU soldering by hand (they didn't have it in stock). I got the AU atmega, specifically this one: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32597714506.html.

Connecting it and pressing the reset button doesn't seem to get me into the bootloader. I have QMK toolbox open and it doesn't show anything connected.

The obvious thing to check is the soldering I did on the MCU, so I checked all the pin connections on it (probing the top of pin on the MCU) and it seems they're all connected to their respective pins. Also checked voltage across GND and 5v on the MCU and I'm getting 5v when the USB is connected. Here's an album showing the board: https://photos.app.goo.gl/LQvmafck5J4vCPHB6.

Is there anything else I can do to troubleshoot this? Thanks!

Alternative diodes to 1N4148W

Hello, I would like to order some pcbs from jlcpcb but they're lacking this component other than the microcontroller.

While I'm positive I can figure out how to get the microcontroller soldered somehow not being able to order the rest of the board assembled really stops me at this point. I happen to have no experience with ordering a pcb or building a custom keyboard so I'm a bit too much on the newbie side in order to take my chances and look for alternative suppliers or pick the component myself.

Any bits of help would be appreciated

Alternative microcontrollers? ATMEGA32U4-AU is hard to find

Hi there, thanks again for creating this awesome keyboard! Very excited to build this and try it out.

I've been having trouble sourcing ATMEGA32U4-AU microcontrollers - I've had two orders fall through already. Do you know of any alternative microcontrollers that would work for this board?

JLCPCB asking to confirm Polarity

Hi,

JLCPCB are complaining about polarity with U1, this is what I uploaded:

They sent me a DFM with this and asked me to confirm.

I am assuming I am OK to continue?

Appreciate all the work that has been done for this keyboard. looking forward to finally getting one.

[Feature Request] ARM microcontrollers support

As QMK features grows in size, it feels like avr isn't big enough to fit everything. Would you be able to put out a variant that uses ARM rather than AVR? I know that this will drive up the price but is a great way to future proof the design in terms of firmware support, and for future hardware support if you ever do decide to implement huge qmk features like quantum painter or other big features.

In terms of which to support there are a lot of stm32 that chibiOS supports. Or you could create a design that works with the new rp2040, although only develop branch of QMK supports it.

How do i order the pcb

Hey I love this keyboard and how it looks. Great job on designing it!

I want to order the pcb for this keeb off of jlc and i was quite confused on how to do it. Like do i just drop the gerber files on jlcbcb? Or do i have to do something else too. I want it ordered so that the micro controller is already soldered on.

[Feature Request] NiceNano Version / Bluetooth

Hi, thanks for sharing this great project with us!

Could you imagine to do a PCB template that has a niceNano or some other integrated Bluetooth module? I personally wouldn't mind to have the halves still connected via a wire as long I could ride of the main cable...

Planning on ordering from JLCPCB, need some guidance

First of all, thanks for the great work. The keyboard looks excellent. I've never ordered a PCB before so I was hopping to get some assistance.

JLCPCB seems to be out of three components:

  • TCA9555PWR (they don't have NXP PCA9555PW either)
  • ATMEGA32U4-AU
  • 500mA fuse

I Think that I should be able to source and solder the TCA9555PWR and ATMEGA32U4-AU. I'm just wondering about the fuse, should be easy enough to find, but it looks tiny and I'm not sure I'd be able to solder it. Is there another model I could replace it with on JLCPCB?

I also have a few questions regarding the order process itself:

  1. The SMT assembly should be on top, right?
  2. On the Upload BOM/CPL screen, should I upload 3W6_Pcb_PositionTop_20210728.csv as the CPL file?
  3. The middle and plate should use aluminium as the base layer, right?
  4. For the middle boards, it's asking for their dimensions. I'm not sure what to enter for that.

Sorry for asking so many trivial questions. It's my first time building something like this, so I'd rather ask then mess it up over something silly.

I'd be happy to send you some beer money if you've got somewhere that I can send it to!
