be.camp's Issues

Sponsor colors on mobile

I would like to see the sponsor level posts show up in color on mobile. On the desktop version, when you hover over the logos, they go from grey to the company colors. In mobile, there is no hover and it only happens when selecting an option.

Email list signup form

We need a way to collect emails into a singular mailing list resource to send out beCamp updates. Mailchimp is a great free solution that will fit our current scale.

In an ideal world, we would implement this in a way that keeps users on the http://be.camp site rather that kicking them over to a 3rd-party page.

Link venue to address / maps

As the 2018 event gets closer, we'll want some way for users to get specific info surrounding Rice Hall at UVA.

  • Address for driving directions
  • Parking information
  • What to look for when on foot

Add "History of beCamp" page

New hero section variation will be needed to show a headline + subheader. Remainder of page content is likely achievable using a standard WYSIWYG field from butterCMS.

Attendees Directory

Would be great to have a list of attendees (who have given consent) to be listed in a directory. Great for looking up faces/names while at the event. Will use provided email to grab gravatar photo. Likely simple grid layout, sorted alphabetically by first name.

Linking to an anchor works once loaded, but not on first page load.

Describe the bug
Linking to an anchor works once loaded, but not on first page load. If you have the site loaded, and follow a link to "#something", it works as expected if "#something" exists. However, if you link externally to "#something", the anchor link has no effect.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Open a new browser tab.
  2. Open https://be.camp/faqs#faq7.
  3. Notice that the page loads from the top of the FAQ section, and does not position over the anchor.

Additional context
It does work as expected when you change the page location with a valid anchor, once the page has loaded.

Increase width of sponsor cards to account for longer description lengths

Screen Shot 2019-09-06 at 4 07 20 PM

Some sponsors have longer text, limit was expressed to be longer this year, so we should make the cards wider across viewports. Screenshot is from chrome dev tools, adjusting large breakpoint tt 33.333% from current 20%. We should aim for fewer columns across all breakpoints but also be mindful that ~75 characters is the maximum comfortable readable line length.

Support multiple “slides” for “TV mode”

It would be helpful to have the TV mode that’s currently being used for the schedule to be able to host and rotate through other content as well. Specifically the code of conduct link to keep it fresh in the mind of all attendees.

Sponsors Page

A sponsors page that reuses the existing becamp-sponsors component along with some extra space for a small writeup would be great. Mostly a duplication of the existing homepage content, but great for even more discovery of the people/companies that help make beCamp happen.

Add parking information to FAQs and Schedule pages via ButterCMS

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
There is currently no information on what the parking situation will be at Rice Hall

Describe the solution you'd like
We should offer a short write up on which lots are available, costs (if any), etc.

Add link to Charlottesville Tech calendar in tasteful way

This handy calendar of tech events exists: https://calendar.google.com/calendar/embed?showTitle=0&height=600&wkst=1&bgcolor=%23FFFFFF&[email protected]&color=%23125A12&ctz=America/New_York

We should leverage it to encourage attendees to not only have the beCamp / beSwarm dates on their calendar, but to be more aware of the larger tech community happenings.

It would be great to have this implemented as an external link. Would not want to include an ugly embed of the google calendar itself on the site.

FAQs page

Need a way to handle FAQs for newcomers. Probably most appropriate as a collection in butterCMS looped through on a custom page template.

Update dependencies, so we no longer have security warnings

Describe the bug
After running npm install, we are warned about many potentially security vulnerabilities. However, since our content is statically generated, we're likely not vulnerable.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. npm install

Expected behavior
Not to have security warnings after running npm install
