Projects
Here's a selection of some of the projects I've worked on throughout my career:
Open-source platform for interactive courses (2023-Present)
I'm building @zoonk, an open-source platform for delivering engaging and interactive courses. The aim of this project is to enhance the way we learn by making education more enjoyable and practical. Technically, Zoonk is built using Elixir, Phoenix, Postgres, and Tailwind, and it leverages GitHub Actions for CI/CD and Fly.io for hosting.
Remote control for robots (2020-21)
At @standardbots, I led the frontend development of the Remote Control - a web app to control robots. As part of an early-stage team, I also helped grow the frontend team and establish engineering processes. I played a key role in building and maintaining features like robot management, live robot control, a routine editor for visually configuring robot tasks, preflight checks, and a Three.js simulator for real-life robot behavior. Additionally, I optimized performance for smooth operation on Lenovo Chromebook tablets. Built with Next.js, TypeScript, Firebase, WebRTC, CSS Modules, and Three.js, the Remote Control was deployed to Vercel.
Social network for sharing learning resources (2019-20)
I created an open-source social network for organizing and sharing learning resources. It let learners keep all their resources in one place, including books, links, videos, and files. They could also create custom learning paths to make studying a subject easier. I built this project using Next.js, TypeScript, Firebase, Material UI, Algolia, and it was deployed on Vercel. Unfortunately, I had to discontinue it in September 2020 due to starting a new job and a lack of time to maintain it.
Interactive stories for kids (2019-20)
Developed Ikidoo, an interactive storytelling app for kids and parents. Helped families to spend quality time together, especially during the pandemic. Discontinued due to starting a new job and lack of maintenance time. Built with Next.js, TypeScript, Firebase, Styled Components, Algolia, and deployed to Vercel. Planning to revive the project in the future.
Inventory and delivery management (2018)
I helped develop the first version of the inventory and delivery management web app at Byrd. The frontend, built with Angular, TypeScript, and NgRx, communicated with the backend via a RESTful API.
Project monitoring and management (2018)
As a frontend developer on the TolaData team, I helped maintain and improve the web app, implementing new features, fixing bugs, and optimizing performance while ensuring code quality. TolaData made it easier for NGOs to collect and visualize data, track their progress, create custom dashboards, and aggregate indicators. One of our challenges was to make the app work offline, a crucial requirement for users in the field without reliable internet access. Using Angular, TypeScript, and NgRx, I collaborated with the team to build the frontend that communicated with the backend through a RESTful API.
Gamified learning (2017)
Developed a gamified learning mobile app to help students learn via problem-solving missions. Used Ionic, TypeScript, and Firebase. The main challenge was scaling content creation. Contributed to the development of the current version of @zoonk.
Energy consumption awareness (2016)
At Sustainable Buildings, I helped develop the ReCharge exhibit dashboard in partnership with the University of Groningen's Science LinX team. Visitors could plug in an electronic device and use the dashboard to monitor energy consumption in real-time. The hardware was a Raspberry Pi, and the dashboard was built using Angular, TypeScript, and WebSockets.
Building management dashboard (2016-17)
I led the development of Sustainable Buildings' management dashboard (v1). It allowed building managers to monitor energy and heating consumption and perform data analysis, including heatmap generation (all in real-time). Built using Angular, TypeScript, and WebSockets.
Real-time electricity consumption (2015-17)
At Sustainable Buildings, I contributed to the development of real-time electricity consumption panels displayed in buildings. The panels showed live electricity consumption and CO2 generated data. The dashboard was built with AngularJS, JavaScript, and WebSockets.
Formula One social network (2009-15)
At Corrida F1, I built a social network for Formula One fans with features such as news sharing, photo sharing, posts, an online encyclopedia of race results, a prediction championship, and sponsored by brands like Red Bull, Ford, and Petrobras. The network reached 20k users and 500k monthly views at its peak, built with WordPress, PHP, MySQL, and jQuery.
News aggregator app (2014-15)
Developed an iOS app that aggregates news from multiple sources, enables users to follow specific media outlets, subjects, and locations, helping them find trustworthy information quickly. Built using Xcode and Objective-C.
BMX Racing website (2015)
Developed a website for the state BMX Racing federation using WordPress, PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, and jQuery to manage news, events, championships, photos, and videos.
Cancer assistance organization (2014-15)
Developed a website an organization that provides cancer patients with assistance. The site enabled posting of news, videos, photos, events, receiving donations, and recruiting volunteers. Also included a Flickr API integration. Built with WordPress, PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, and jQuery.
Local hospital website (2013-14)
I helped develop the website for Hospital Santa Cruz while working at Unisc. The website allowed them to post news, press releases, manage services, documents, and patients, and was built using WordPress, PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, and jQuery.
Internal tools (2012-14)
At Unisc, I developed several internal websites and event landing pages using WordPress, PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, and jQuery.
