This means I can disable parts of the pipeline (from the end to the start) to debug each piece.
If I start with:

Then I should be able to switch to (with e.g shortcut: Shift+Left):
[ .[] | {(.ifname): .address} ] | add | .eth0
And then:
[ .[] | {(.ifname): .address} ] | add | .eth0
And then:
[ .[] | {(.ifname): .address} ] | add | .eth0

Can the initial prompt be pre-populated with an existing expression by passing via the command line?

This will help with re-editing existing expressions.

I'm using a terminal with white background (iTerm) and jqed's output is also white.

This project looks very promising, keep up the good work.

When processing a big (>1024b) file with strings of unicode characters (\uXXXX) jqed errors out as such:

    chunk = os.read(self.jq_proc.stdout.fileno(), 1024).decode()
UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf-8' codec can't decode byte 0xd0 in position 1023: unexpected end of data

I don't really know python, but I thought decoding blocks of 1024b might break those unicode characters in half.
So when changing 1024 to 100*1024 jqed then sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. And even when it works, entering '.' makes it die the same way, though on a different position.

could you implement the workaround?

Please use readline for consistent keyboard bindings between the shell and jqed.
