usesthis's Issues

Accessibility-oriented guidance

There's currently a thread on HN discussing tech/software tooling options for the visually impaired fn1. I think it would be fantastic if Usesthis could collect a section of interviews in this context, by inviting users with different kinds of challenges (and feature this section prominently on the navbar).

If you're looking for suggestions to kick things off, T.V. Raman might be interesting: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T._V._Raman

Needs a logo.

I've noticed this project doesn't have a logo. Any ideas?

Insert link in Markdown API

Hi,

The API are currently getting to me markdown with not correct links, basically those just have the slug name. Could you make them output the real link of the software or hardware?

Here is an example:
On the iPad I use [Procreate][procreate-ios] and [Adobe Sketch][photoshop-sketch-ios]. I like Procreate for how powerful the tool is, but nothing has been able to top Adobe Sketch's basic pencil tool

Integration with MailChimp

Hi,

I'm an mobile developer, so I don't know if it's easy to do or not, but what about linking the publication of a new post with a MailChimp mailing list to notify all users when new interview are published?

Let me know if I can help setting it up and adding to the website.

How To Change Url of Interviews

Hello,

The interviews which has been taken are something like this : firstname.lastname.usesthis.com

What if I wish to make it like this : domainname.com/firstname.lastname ?

Thanks.

Contributions?

Hey Daniel,

If I were to contribute some interviews via GitHub with myself, a colleague who is a composer, and another who is an editor and writer, would that be of interest? :- )

/api/interviews add Interview Image

It'll be really cool if the JSON for the interview list endpoint will return also the image. I'm starting mapping this for the iOS client, and having the image will improve the overall UI.

Blank lines in tags are breaking UI

Removing the web category in this commit has left some blank lines in the list of tags and seems to be breaking the UI a little, for example:

image

Removing these blank lines should resolve the issue, or maybe there's a way to have the style ignore them but that seems like more work.

Gear/Software search?

Hi, thanks for the website, it's amazing.

I am always looking through the list of gear when I'm searching for a tool or just wandering around, and it's really useful for me.

I was thinking about how I can contribute by adding a search page, in which the user can search in all the gears for a given keyword.
I checked the APIs https://usesthis.com/api/v2/hardware/01v96i/ and https://usesthis.com/api/v2/hardware/01v96i/ and looking through the api.rb file, and it seems like you are manually building the entire list and r of gears and relationship with an interview.

Search API

I'm thinking 2 approaches:

  1. We can load all the JSON in a MongoDB database, and search through that. It'll help with performance and pagination. I can put a little JS application in the middle that generates the search API.
  2. We can use the list you load in the api.rb files, and implement the search there.

Search Page

After that, I should somehow create the page on the website for searching through the gears, calling the search API. Not 100% sure if that is possible, as it seems a static generate website.

What do you think about the idea? You think is technically doable?
