make sure you install [email protected] and not 2.x
i had the same problem with 2.x, when i installed 3.0.0 got no errors

The default install is now compatible with vue-router and vuex 2.x. If there are still errors with the latest version, please open a separate issue.

The doc should be updated since there isn't a @next branch available on npm now

@smallpath The README.md says it. I just totally overlooked it. It was last updated 3 months ago so it must have been in there a while. I think this is good to close.
