When using packages in private registries, the extension fails when trying to switch to latest version:

This is probably because the npm view command is not following the private registry located at .npmrc file inside project.

There is a workaround for switching to remote package, by specifing a specific version of the package, but developer should know the latest version to use it.

if multiple packages are referenced in the settings.json file then an error of Cannot read property 'split' of undefined is displayed and the extension's sidebar panel no longer displays any packages.

NOTE: if only one package is referenced in the settings.json file then the extension is able to parse it successfully
