Rather than avoid blocks from inactive partitions, use their respective partition's password to decrypt them into a buffer and then re-encrypt the content and append it to the end of the current write operation for the active branch. This might be best to do only in certain cases, like to ensure a file is written with relatively little fragmentation, otherwise a container that's nearly reached its capacity might end up completely rebuilding itself to complete a simple write operation.
