mgs2-v-s-fix's Issues

Instant crash

So I applied the fix, and went to start up the game. It worked well, but the patch didn't seem to have applied. I went to settings, and booted up the game again. Then it crashed. Whenever I start up the game, it crashes. How do I fix this?

USB gamepad not working

I've installed the game some days ago and I've always been playing well with my generic USB gamepad (ps2- like, with 2 analog sticks). I had some trouble with switching graphic card and some graphic glitches (I play on laptop with geforce), so I decided to try this Fix and everything is ok, very good job! No more graphic issues...
Unfortunately, after applying the fix, the controls of my USB gamepad don't work properly and i can't find a way to re-map them. Before the fix, they were absolutely fine

Any suggestions?

Right Stick not working (+Button remapping?)

The right stick is not working for some reason not working. Everything else is working fine, including triggers and vibration. Assistance will be appreciated.

And also, is there a way to remap the buttons like the original launcher? Being constrained to only 2 control setup is not applicable for me since i did finish the game using my own custom setup.

Settings menu doesn't work

Fix installed successfully but I keep getting this error that says "Unhandled Exception" everytime I try to select the settings. I'm on a ASUS laptop with a GTX 960m and I'm completely lost.

Request to switch bumpers with triggers.

Well the name says everything. Would you please add switch option to switch bumpers with triggers? It's good for xbox 360 and one gamepads as you know the aiming is more needed than switching between items so it's handy to have it on the bigger "button" (sorry for closing and reopening, thought pull request is for requests :D)

Awesome

I just wanted to comment and say this is an awesome project. I can't wait for you to add PC control support as it's the only missing feature at the moment :)

Ingame options saving

Is it possible to make the ingame options not resetting every time you boot up the game? It's especially annoying if you wanna play in a different language.

Triggers not working

I cant get the triggers to work with my xbox 360 controller, I enabled the controller with PS2 config and everything works except the triggers.
Thanks for making this fix!

R3 (sticks) not working

So yeah, basically I can't aim. When I use ps2 or V scheme. In V scheme game recognizes the stick for first person but not for aiming. No idea why. Any way to fix this?

kb.ini is missing

I just got this and when I tried to load it up, I got an error that said "Failed access to file GAME DIRECTORY/./kb.ini" I've looked for the file and nothing showed up. Any help?

dual graphics

Because I am Japanese, English grammar may be wrong.
I am sorry if it is wrong.
objects are drawn to the double in movie. please help me.

"Failed to create IDirectSound8 Object" when using DS4 audio jack

I connected my DS4 through USB and set the Wireless Controller audio device as the main audio device, when starting the game I noticed that it gave me the "Failed to create IDrectSound8 Object" and then it closes , but if I switched it to the main audio device the game would boot normaly even with the DS4 controller connected, so I concluded that the game cannot play any audio through the DS4 audio device, I hope this was clear to understand, and thank you very much.

Enabling 'Extra cool effects' give weird depth of field

I notice that on a lot of cutscenes, at times there is some weird kind of graphical anomaly that occurs in characters at times like the edge of a character seems to be like cloned a few times. Dont know how to call it.

I think it might be DoF or Motion Blur or something not working properly. Is this what youd call a "Complain Konami" issue.

I have a GTX 750 Ti and i3 4170, running on Windows 10, 1080p 16:9. Everything enabled except model quality set to medium

Downloaded new 1.05 update for MGS2S PC V's Fix and now it crashes every time I try to start

Worked fine but wanted to get the new 1.05 update since it added the PS4 remote option and when I finished installation, the game no longer starts. The update looks as if it's been activated in the settings but the game does not launch anymore. It just opens a black screen for a couple of seconds and then it closes. Here are the debug details:

Please help me with this issue, I love this game and your fix and i'm pretty bummed out that idk how to resolve this.

Missing game audio

Thanks to this patch, the game is finally working. But I'm missing the music and voice audio. The sound effects of, for example, the main menu and codec call sound is working, but there are no voices or music. I've reinstalled the game multiple times and checked the options to see if the sound was actually on, but both didn't work.
Is there a fix for this yet?

Change the suggested fix from common bugs for the freeze

In the key "Movies and cutscene seems to freeze, but I can ear the audio playing in the background as if nothing were wrong", it suggests installing k-lite full, but basic is enough to fix the issue and isn't as bloated.
also, this is great, thanks!

SMAA/Compatibility Mode disables Steam Controller

Firstly, I love all the work you have done on this fix. It is so strange to have that old MGS2 port from more than a decade ago working almost as good as (and in some areas better) than the HD Collection!

I understand this is likely a "blame Konami/Microsoft/Valve" issue rather than an error on your part. However, enabling SMAA/Win XP Compatibility mode forces MGS2_SSE to ask for UAC rights. Which is likely the normal behaviour; however, this stops the Steam controller from working at all. Slightly more alarmingly, for a little while it looked like I would have to completely uninstall and reinstall the fix in order to fix it, as it continued to ask for UAC even after turning SMAA off (it turned out turning of Admin rights AND Win XP compatibility in MGS2_SSE fixed it back to how it was working before).

Again, I'm more posting this as an issue in case others experience it, so it can be added to the FAQ or something. I suppose the ideal solution would be that turning off SMAA automatically switches compatibility mode and admin rights back off (returning it back to the state before enabling SMAA), although I don't think users at the level of installing the fix already likely mind going to the executable and changing compatibility settings,

Again, this definitely isn't knocking the work you've done as I won't lose sleep over any kind of fix for the issue, just posting it more for others ;)

R3/L3 not working on Dualshock 4

Hello,
I have a DS4 and I use a program called DS4Windows to make the Windows think it's an XBOX controller, therefore support it. I tried running the game with - Xbox - PS2 Type - and every button works correctly except for R3 and L3 - game doesn't react to them at all. Is there a way to fix this issue? Maybe somebody got it running with a DS4 using other software.

Codec is missing the videos

In the codec there sometimes the video. It's missing on modern PCs. Haven't tried it without WS fix, but you should mention it in known bugs.

Controls issues

While playing, I've had the issue that L3 isn't really working at all. I've tried both a Dualshock 4 and an XBone pad, and on either, L3 just doesn't register, so I'm not able to bring down my weapon. It also doesn't register L3 presses in Codec to zoom in on the Left person's portrait, so I'm fairly sure the game just doesn't know I'm pressing L3. These issues persist whether I'm in V's controls or in PS2 controls.

I didn't find anything in the 'Controllers and Actions' page about this.

[Silly question - Sorry about it] Cheats.

@VFansss I'm sorry to open an Issue to ask this.

I was remembering how MGS1 for PC had those Launching Command Line Parameters like "MGSI.EXE -Cheatenable" and I was wondering if its possible for you to implement cheating on MGS2 following the same pattern or on the Fix Main menu itself or something like that.

Again, I'm terribly sorry to ask such silly question, but I couldn't contain myself.

Xbox One Controller - Can't Grab / Choke?

Hi there.

First off, thank you for all the work you've done getting MGS2 playable on the PC once again. Thanks to your fixes, I'm running the game at a beautiful resolution, nice and smooth. However, I seem to be having an issue with the controls.

I'm currently playing with an Xbox One controller, connected via USB on a Windows 10 laptop (Surface Book 2), and under your settings menu, I've chosen the Xbox Controller option along with the PS2 control scheme. Upon starting the game, everything seems to be running perfectly. However, when Snake is standing still and I put away my tranquilizer gun, the X button on my Xbox One controller (which would be the Square button on a PS2 controller) does not do anything. I have not played MGS2 in years, but I believe Snake is supposed to execute a grab/flip/choke move when you press Square? Instead, nothing happens no matter how many times I press the button - he just stands there.

Even more strange is that I can successfully shoot my tranquilizer gun using that same button, and I can even pick enemies up off the floor when they fall asleep - but I can't grab them from behind when they're standing. It's as if grab/choke/flip are not mapped to the proper button, but everything else is. I have no idea if I am not remembering the game correctly or if the controls are indeed not mapped correctly, haha.

Hoping this can be resolved easily and quickly. Thanks again for all your hard work.

I'm able to see trough the wall

Helllo, sorry for my bad english
What is happening is that sometimes I'm Able to see trough the walls, or, If I'm in a small room I can see the object outside the room but not the floor.

I'm playing on a laptop and Laptop mode is On,
Resolution is on 1280x720 (With this resolution I have still this bug)
Optimized 16:9 is on,
Fullscreen cutscenes is on
Maintain aspect ratio is On

Any advice? :\

Add binary to releases

Can you please add v1.01 binary to the releases page, and link to it from the readme. This is common practice for similar projects like these. Thanks :)

Triggers and Rumble not working on steam controller

When using a steam controller, the triggers do not work, and there is no rumble at all. This also applies for any controller using steam's configuration support. To test it, just plug in an xbox or ps4 controller, enable steam's controller configuration for that controller, launch mgs2ssetup.exe through steam, and then in-game the triggers will not work, and rumble won't work either. The triggers can be fixed using a workaround involving binding them to their keyboard inputs through steam, but there's no way to add the rumble back in.

Freezes on intro screen

I just installed this game and the fix, when the game reaches "Konami presents" screen, video freezes but I can still hear audio. Is there a specific EXE I should be using or something else?

mgs2_sse_2016-11-27_21-58-34

No shadows and green sea water

As the title says, there's no shadows in my game and the sea water is green.
My settings are Model Quality on Medium, everything else on High and ON. Putting the Model Quality on High gives me really weird textures, for examples during codec calls I can only see the glasses on Otacon.

I'm playing on Acer Nitro 5 laptop with nVidia MX150 GPU.

Also I'd like to add, I'm using a PS4 controller, and every game I'm playing with the DS4 app is on. However with MGS2, it seems that with it on, it conflicts with the V fix controller setup. For example, while pressing O button, it crouches, instead of punching. I "fixed" it by not turning on the DS4 app, however without it there's no vibrations. I'll try to fiddle around the settings a bit more, might find a solution to it.

And thanks for the patch, I remember years ago when I played it on my desktop PC, it was such a fucking hassle with all of the patches, exes and what not.

Game not taking input from XBox controller

Just had to do a reimage of my computer, and was reinstalling the game and your fix (thank you for your work on this btw!). For some reason, it's not accepting input from my Xbox controller when it's connected via Bluetooth or when it's wired. The Settings menu in V's fix recognizes it, but the game itself isn't. Any ideas? I've followed installation instructions to the letter, and have tried the two most recent versions of V's fix (the older one was what my computer had originally). I installed with admin rights, etc.

Non-Steam Game with Steam Overlay

Hi there,

Do you know how I can start with Steam Overlay for chat and screenshots?

Thanks ๐Ÿ‘

Please, Delete this question, if this works and I made a mistake !

Weapon raising/lowering

Even though the current way to lower the weapon with L3 works, it's still really awkward to handle assault rifles. Is it possible to change it to something like this?

Click L3 to raise weapon and click again to lower. (AFAIK this is how XBOX/360 versions of the game handle this. Not sure if firing the weapon or leaving first person lowers the gun.)
or
Hold L3 to raise weapon, let go to lower.

This would make doing hold-ups and firing short bursts with assault rifles a lot more intuitive.

I've obtained this error after running MGS2 for the twice.

Steam Controller working like a charm.

First of all, i want to thank you for this great fix for MGS2 PC port. The game plays like a charm.
Second this is not an issue at all, i just wanted to inform you, that your fix works perfectly with the Steam Controller.
Here is how you use a Steam Controller with MGS2 using your patch. After installing the patch you have to do the follow

  1. Open MGS2SETUP.exe, go to Settings - Controls and the set the "Gamepad" to "Steam".
  • "Open Vยดs Fix after playing" will be set to Off.
  • FXAA will be used instead of SMAA, if selected
  1. Add the game to Steam
  • Automatic Way (Suggested)
Go to "Other tab" and press the "Steam logo" to add the game to Steam
  • Manual Way
Open Steam, in the lower left of the windows there a " add game" select "add a non steam product". A new windows will open, go to folder where MGS2 is installed and select "mgs2_sse.exe". It will add the game to the list of installed games.

4)Run the game and voila, you have a fully working steam overlay which will allow you to config the gamepad.

I made a layout it can be found in the community under "ID: 1442393756" It works like PS2 layout and most important the control stick is pressure sensitive, which means you can walk and run without the need to press anything. Also you can quit the game using the steam overlay, instead of pressing ESC and then having to press accept in the small windows, making it run quite seamless.

DualShock 4 "left analog down" prompts a closing window

First of all, great job overall! Thanks much for the effort so that us peasants without a PS3 can enjoy this game.

My problem is that every time I go down with the analog stick it prompts a window that says

Ending game.
Data not saved will dissappear.
OK?

I'm using the PS2 configuration, and would like to keep doing so to retain the original experience.

Music/Voices Gone Permanently

So I beat Tanker-Plant on Normal and things worked the entire time. When I booted up the game again later to play the VR missions, the music and voices had all gone. I tried to play Snake Tales and Tanker-Plant on Hard, but the voices and music remained gone. I changed the audio settings around to different configs but nothing would make it work. I'm running Laptop Mode if that makes a difference. Still, thank you so much for the fix! It worked perfectly up until now.

Mouse and FPP VR

Is there any chance of adding mouse control or a different scheme for FPP VR missions to make them more comfortable?

Savedata vanishing/corrupted

I'm an italian player so please forgive my grammar mistakes.
My issue is about the saves, which are starting to disappear or being corrupted. What happens is simple: I start a new game and create a new save slot. Then i continue into the game and obviously i have to overwrite the first save. But, when i close the game and I restart it, in the load game menu i can only see the first save. The strange thing is that, while I play, the subsequent saves works just fine. I tried to take a look at the /savedata folder of the game and it shows only /GameData00 even if I can see the 01 slot into the game. Can't find anything similar around, so i thought that this could be helpful for you and for other players who may encounter such a frustrating issue.
I'll continue updating this thread in case I'll found something new about this issue.
However, thanks for your attention and patience and for the great work. Your fix made my dream come true. Have a nice day!

Hold/Toggle First Person view

Hey, great work on the fix it's very impressive.
I want to know if there's a way to make it so you can hold the first person view button down and let go to exit. like in the console versions as apposed to toggling it on and off. I seem to remember being able to do this on the normal pc version with out this fix and I tried finding a way to do this but found nothing, only managing to customize the controls.

Thanks in advance.

R1/L1 not working

First of all, thanks for the fix ! And then I ran into an issue with controller support. Triggers are working as intended, only there is no R1/L1 at all.

I'm using a xbox one controller, but it shouldn't make a difference isn't it ?

Compatibility with "Dumb Xinput Emulator"?

I've been trying MGS2 on Linux through Wine with your fix and it works pretty well, however trying to enable the custom 360 controller layouts doesn't seem to work. It complains about UAC/permissions at first when trying to save the settings, then throws a message about "hardware structure" when trying to launch the game before re-opening the configuration window.

In trying to figure out how to get it to work, I noticed you use something called Xinput Plus and put a custom xinput1_3.dll and custom dinput.dll and dinput8.dll in the games folder I assume to translate dinput controls to xinput API, and I wander if this is part of the problem?

There's another tool called dumbxinputemu (https://github.com/kozec/dumbxinputemu) that does something similar, only requires a custom xinput1_3.dll, is made in part to work in Wine and I've used in the past with other games in Wine with success. Would it be possible to add support for this, or would the problem be something else?

I can't run diagonally

Hi, I'm playing with a 360 pad and i noticed a very annoying problem : each time I try to run diagonally the character stops to run, and starts to walk instead. I'm surprised no one seems to have the same problem.

I made a short gif to show how annoying it is. http://i.imgur.com/zZGRn7i.gifv In this gif, I was always pushing the stick to the max but while I push it precisly between the X and Y axis, Snake starts to walk. The game seem unable to understand that I should be able to push the stick to the max for X and Y axis at the same time.

I never had this kind of problem before, in any other game. Not even when I played MGS2 without the "V's fix patch" (which I installed only for the vibration of the pad, which was the only thing important to me that wasn't working, with the other patches I used in my previous installation of the game).

(I thought I could fix that by getting the source code of the patch, and by updating the "XIpunt Plus" software to its last version, but... I don't know how to compile. I'm not sure at all it was really the problem too, anyway.)

Edit : So I realized, after reinstalling my OS (windows 7) and reinstalling the game with the patch + alchemy + a crack + xpadder, that my problem is still there. So your patch wasn't responsible for it. I guess you can't help me then. :/ Sorry for this thread. (It's very annoying because I would have liked to try to play in european extreme and to try to speedrun a little, but clearly I can't at all with this...)
