I'm not personally using the F1 shortcut (as my serial interface deals with the ISP pin and I have pullups on fan/heat gpios), but I would be perfectly fine with something like a few short beeps. Not sure how to time it though with minimal hw init?

I was going to close this on account as probably not required... the minimal HW setup is tricky to do, and presumably anybody using this special FW will know when it's in bootloader mode. If you accidentally enter bootloader mode it's just a quick power cycle to it works again.
