Chosen Topic and Rationale

Since there has been an increase in storm intensity, this project is to analyze the severe weather for the last 5 years in the United States.

  • Visualization using Leaflet-style overlay map for severe weather from 2010-2016 and have a toggel for type of severe weather: hail, tornado and wind.
  • Visualization of the number and type of severe weather by state using a stacked bar chart for the chose year
  • Visualiztion of the intensity and number of weather events using a bubble chart.
  • Visualization of the total damage by year for each type of severe weather using a pie chart, displaying metadata on hover.
  • Deploy the website onto Heroku see link above.

Resources and Datasets

The website we created

US map using Leaflet to show each severe weather event.

Pie chart data showing total inuries and monetary loss for the selected year.

Bubble chart showing severe weather events for the months by size of the selected year.

Stacked bar chart showing the severe weather events for the months of the selected year.

Another bubble chart showing the frequency, total damage, fatalities of severe weather events for each. The larger the state's seal, the more frequent storms, total damage or fatalities.
