rpy.me's Issues

Nitpick: "Tutorial mode" animation

The third panel on 'Credits and Debits' zooms a bit to the top right then snaps into the centre by jumping to the left.
I'm noticing this in FIrefox, poke me if you need a screenshot?

Cancel add debt button has wrong tooltip

When you click '+' in the footer to add a debt, it turns into an 'x' to indicate cancel.

But the tooltip still reads "add debt".

SHouldn't it read 'cancel' or 'return'?

Add debt hint at bottom of list

Some sort of "add debt" hint on the main list for new users and/or if the list is empty. Need to think about exactly how this will work nicely... comments welcome.

Tutorial mode readability suggestions

Things that struck me about the tutorial that may be considered for improvement:

  • There is no mention of how to replay the tutorial. A few words in the settings box might help, since settings is not the 'obvious' place for a tutorial.
  • The credits and debits text is a bit much to parse. Little things like highlighting "Green currency" in the same colour and font as that used in the UI would help immensely.
  • Even better, if you wanted to get fancy, you could swap them out for example credit/debit entries and point out what they mean explicitly. (More word though. I think coloured text makes for a quick win.)
  • Your Add Debit button description "Click this button down here to add a new credit or debit." doesn't tell me what this is really for. Consider rewording to something that indicates that this may involve other people, since this is the real selling point of the app.

I guess the key here is to keep it as minimal and easy to parse as possible, since this is keeping people from using the app.

Also not sure this can be considered a 'tutorial'. It shows off the main UI but doesn't actually walk me through how to do anything :P
I think that's all you need atm, but I'd reconsider naming it. "UI tour" perhaps?

Set due date: calendar dialogue open by default?

A thought re: the set due date modal.

You have a giant modal showing one input field.
Instead of showing the calendar on click, could we show it by default above/below the field?

I imagine this would be a bit easier on mobile users, but not owning a smartphone I wouldn't know.

Settings page UI end

On the main page the footer is aligned to the bottom of the screen, and stretches 100%.

On the settings page the bottom of the page appears to be the Save/Cancel buttons, and their div doesn't expand the width of the page.

I know this is because it's actually because of the form, but it's a bit of an odd inconsistency in UI.

Settings page usability: Currency setting misleading?

When I first looked at the settings page I saw the currency setting.

My first reaction was surprise that it was set to USD but I'd seen debts listed in AUD.
My second reaction was confusion when I set it to Yen and didn't see the numbers change either.

Then I read:
"Your default currency. Your totals will be displayed in this."

But that's not the mental association I made.

Recommend a label change. Perhaps "Totals" instead of "Currency"?
Unless it's planned that the currency setting will change what is showed as well? Or if that becomes an option?
