friendcomputer's Issues

DBC Feedback

DBC Feedback: Users seem to find the output of the program to be funny. Its attempts to imitate humans are seen as unintentionally comedic, and users support keeping the program that way. Users also forgave Friend Computer for its errors.

Handle situations where user has no positive or negative words

Sample blog text:
"If I ever wanted to learn more about the world, I would head straight to the twitter account of NicholasStelter and read the amazing tweets that are contained there. NicholasStelter fanatically cares about the idea behind New Blog Post. NicholasStelter fanatically enjoys the concept of CHI DBC. https://t.co/eGX8FqMzya. NicholasStelter fanatically dislikes . NicholasStelter is a very accommodating fellow who you should follow. I have learned a lot from studying NicholasStelter's insights, and you too can benefit as well."

Turns out that AlchemyAPI did not find any negative terms for NicholasStelter. So I may need to write some code to handle this edge case.

Behave like an actual blogger

  1. The program should run a rake test that will generate a blog post, every night. Ideally, I should use the Ruby gem 'whenever' to accomplish this task.

  2. The website should also have a form where people can "subscribe" to receive newsletters, which would show the latest blog posts that the program has written. Undecided whether the newsletters should contain the whole blog post or only a snippet.

Accept user requests for blog topics

User should be able to specify a "Twitter account" for Friend Computer to blog about immediately. The resulting blog post should mention the fact that a user prompted it to be blogged. May need to take steps to prevent spammers and abusers from using this 'feature'. (Not only would it be just plain immoral, but I also have a limit on how many times I can call AlchemyAPI, and I don't want AlchemyAPI to revoke my access.)
