tox-website.old's Issues

Redesign the site

As it stands, the current web site has a couple of problems:

  • Little to no actual information about Tox is offered
    • All the actual info is buried on the Wiki.
  • It's unclear how to actually contribute.
  • There are a few layout bugs.

I was going to hack together a fix, but fuck it throw the entire thing out.

The Solution: make something new!
WIP branch

Tasks to be done:

  • Make it using Bootstrap, not tuktuk like the current one. [In progress.]
  • Copy the most useful content from the Wiki to the site (Servers, Client showcase)
  • List all Tox GitHub projects, not just Core
  • Migrate translations.
  • A Contributing page, listing tasks which can be done (translation, GUIs, core code, etc.)

Some screenshots of the redesign (links because they are huge)

site down, 502 error

Hi I just learned about Tox and wanted to visit tox.im but i'm getting a 502 bad gateway message. Just a heads up.

Host the website on github.

As this should be a static website, I think it should be hosted on github.

An example is http://hexchat.github.io/ or www.bitcoin.org
You don't have to keep the .github.io, you can have it all hosted on www.tox.im.

This removes control of the website from one person and shift it to the whole community.

Only the domain name is left, but that's not too bad.

Lato font lacks Cyrillic, Greek and Esperanto glyphs

Maybe some other alphabets are also lacking and the end result looks fugly when Lato is mixed with substitution font:
toxfont

Lato itself already has all the glyphs needed, but the version hosted on Google Fonts does not. I'd suggest either moving to other font (Roboto?) or shipping the correct Lato version with the site itself as opposed to using Google Fonts.

Missing LICENSE

You may want to add a LICENSE file to the repository. I don't know if the author from https://archive.foolz.us/gd/thread/87300 is still reachable, and it seems unlikely. Some kind of attribution on the site and in LICENSE for the anonymous author would be from legal viewpoint better.

wiki and blog aren't SSL'd (yet)

I'm not at home so I can't make the changes myself, but can someone change the links on the navbar so that blog and wiki direct to http? I'm in the midst of getting SSL certs for those sub domains but it's a pain.

CSS calls for Lato font woff file but none exists.

The CSS tells Firefox to use the woff file first for the font and fall back to the TTF file, but only the TTF file is being served by the server.

I currently see https://tox.im/assets/fonts/Lato-Regular.woff as a 404 error in my log and
https://tox.im/assets/fonts/Lato-Bold.woff as a 404 error as well. If you decide to add these make sure that they match the corrected version of the font. I'm not entirely sure what the implication of removing them is (Firefox seems to be okay with TTF fonts provided they don't have errors)

the site is something wrong?

when i first open it shows"An error occured with the application"
then i hit F5 everything goes well.
why?could u fix it?

ssl_error_bad_cert_domain

I just want to notify you about this: https://twisterio.com/post/tasty/1195

looks like certificate for blog.libtoxcore.so & repo.tox.im was replaced by one for ipwnage.com.

first page redirects to https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:blog.libtoxcore.so/ and second one contains placeholder with some pathetic appeal:

Take up your arms, my children. Take up your arms and embrace your Destiny!

and also I see some request:

301 text/html 0 GET http://www.youtube.com/embed/aA9oSO-HLQw?autoplay=1

first I tried to upgrade tox-bootstrapd from repo but I got some warnings from apt-get so I went to see what was happend.

Get rid of "coming soon"

I have the commit ready for the English variation, but I believe it's time to ditch the "coming soon" in the h1. Perhaps that worked when we all had to compile from source, but the fact of the matter is we now have (semi) working binaries that even normal people can pick up and use. I'm pretty sure it's "here" despite the fact it's not even alpha.

Any comments, criticism, etc?
