Need to provide something like this: '{imap.gmail.com:993/ssl}';

What popped to my mind at some point was that it might be actually interesting to know the number of either/and total found emails / processed emails. But I could quite decide on what would be most interesting and how to implement that. (ie have fetch return only one of those two possible values? return an array with both values? save the values into attributes?) but that'd be a minor thing to realise if wanted..

Well, the original idea sprang from wanting to catch the case that actually no emails were processed.
