From reading the cluster-longhorn.sh script, it seems that longhorn frontend is exposed on plain HTTP. What would it take to have it working over HTTPS?

I am not sure if this line is correct and inserts correct data in a correct place.

Could it be replaced with line:

yq e -i '.spec.tcp = []' "${CL_DIR}/${NAME}/${NAME}.yaml"

This could give us more consistent results in case, the default content of the file changes.

With the previous settings to metrics.enabled = true, installation fails due to service monitor not available.

I guess, script installing prometheus could/should enable metrics back during installation.

This is just to let you know about the change as it may affect existing installations. You can close the issue once read.
