bitmap-fonts's Introduction

bitmap-fonts

A collection of monospaced bitmap fonts for X11, good for terminal use. These fonts were not created by me, the authors are listed below. Some of these fonts may be out of date. If something doesn't work check the archives file and see if there is a readme included with the font, or take a look at the creators website listed below.

This repo is an attempt to catalog all existing bdf/pcf fonts.

Please submit a pull request if there are any bdf/pcf fonts that you want added. Any bdf/pcf fonts will be accepted.

Installation:

git clone https://github.com/Tecate/bitmap-fonts.git
cd bitmap-fonts
sudo cp -avr bitmap/ /usr/share/fonts
xset fp+ /usr/share/fonts/bitmap
fc-cache -fv

Bitmap fonts are disabled by default on Kali, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and more.

To fix this enter the following commands:

cd /etc/fonts/conf.d/
sudo rm /etc/fonts/conf.d/10*
sudo rm -rf 70-no-bitmaps.conf
sudo ln -s ../conf.avail/70-yes-bitmaps.conf .
sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig

bitmap-fonts's Issues

envypn directory

Hey
There is a tiny mistake for the envypn directory: /bitmap/evypn-font/
Thanks 🍺

Opti and Proggy fonts not functioning

I have tried to install the bitmap fonts on both Xubuntu and Arch Linux. All fonts work fine, except for all the Proggy fonts and the Opti font. The symbols in these fonts instead show up as boxes with numbers in them.

Install instructions cause huge oversized emoji characters

FYI: In the install instructions, the line:

sudo rm /etc/fonts/conf.d/10*

causes emoji characters in many apps to look about ten times too large. (They are often then clipped by the line height.).

Specifically, the problem is caused by deleting 10-scale-bitmap-fonts.conf, as described here:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/940899/noto-color-emojis-look-super-huge

I don't know whether what you're trying to achieve with that 'rm' can be achieved by removing more specific symlinks, leaving that one intact?

I'm on Ubuntu 20.04 (pre-release), but the stack overflow question makes it sound like this also applies to older releases.

I don't have any problem personally, I'm just filing this to let you know about it. Close this if you wish. Thank you!

IBMPlexMono

I have generated .FNT files for IBMPlexMono-Light and IBMPlexMono-Medium each in pixel height ranges of 12–16 at usonianhorizon-vtfnt in case you might find those useful for inclusion.

Regards.

update tamzen-font

Hello,

Tamzen no longer has an uneven baseline at size 13:

TamzenForPowerline7x13r.bdf TamzenForPowerline7x13b.bdf

Also, it would help if you could demo size 15 instead:

TamzenForPowerline8x15r.bdf TamzenForPowerline8x15b.bdf

Because sizes 12 and 13 are the same as in Tamsyn 1.11; the rest differentiate Tamzen from Tamsyn.

Cheers.

envypn requires update

This repo contains an old version of envypn (pre-2015). The newest version contains support for Powerline glyphs, so It might be a good idea to grab the latest version of it.

Mint installation problem

When using xset fp+ /usr/share/fonts/bitmap on Linux Mint, it returned the following results:

ic2000@mint ~/bitmap-fonts $ xset fp+ /usr/share/fonts/bitmap
xset: bad font path element (#3), possible causes are:
Directory does not exist or has wrong permissions
    Directory missing fonts.dir
Incorrect font server address or syntax

IBMPlexMono

I have generated .FNT files for IBMPlexMono-Light and IBMPlexMono-Medium each in pixel height ranges of 12–16 at usonianhorizon-vtfnt in case you might find those useful for inclusion.

Regards.
