When you hit new route, enter in a new route, then let everything load, the pins on the map move with the previous route instead of the new route, even though the new photos are there.

As evidenced by console logs.
getPhoto called by ourCallback, which is called by calcRoute, which is called every time getmap is called. getmap is called by makeMap, which is called every time there is a state change start, which encompasses any navigation between states

Inspecting the element, we see they do show up in the DOM. Perhaps it is a scrollbar container issue?

When you enter a route, then you click "get Kraken", the route shows up. About a second later images show up and the route is gone.
