Create proper handling for when the server (or lambda in this case) returns an error.

It would be nice if the user were able to hear a sound when a move is completed. This would add to the immersion and completeness of the experience.
This should be toggleable in the start menu.

The UI before beginning the game is different from the "game over" UI after a game. Refactor the start screen to display as a modal, and include a nenw screen with options to select a game mode (local, AI, or online).

It would be nice if the user had a visual for which piece was just moved by the engine or themself and where it was moved from.
Ideally highlight those two squares with some color, maybe red.

I would like to have the ability to play against a computer which will control the opposing pieces.

It would be nice if the user knew that the computer was "thinking" rather than just seeing the screen freeze up.
Some sort of spinner over the screen would be good for this.
We probably don't want to obstruct user's view of the pieces.
