Computational approaches to semantic change detection

Hands-on sessions for ESSLLI course "Computational approaches to semantic change detection". The exercises are run in Jupyter Notebooks. If you want to participate in hands-on sessions please install all necessary requirements and make sure you know how to run notebooks before Aug 8.

Course overview

  1. Semantic change detection as an NLP task. Annotation schemes and existing datasets.
  2. Learned representations for semantic change detection, part 1: methods based on static embeddings.
  3. Learned representations for semantic change detection, part 2: methods based on contextualized embeddings and pre-trained language models.
  4. Back to linguistics: grammatical profiling for semantic change detection.
  5. Applications. Media Monitoring. Explainable semantic change modeling. Future directions and open problems.
