Melanoma-Detection-using-using-custom-cnn

This project uses a custom CNN to detect melanoma in images of skin lesions among 10 classes. The Gradio library is used to create a web app for the model prediction. The model predicts with an 87% accuracy.

Dataset Information

The dataset consists of 2357 images of malignant and benign oncological diseases, which were formed by the International Skin Imaging Collaboration (ISIC). All images were sorted according to the classification taken with ISIC, and all subsets were divided into the same number of images, with the exception of melanomas and moles, whose images are slightly dominant.

The data set contains the following diseases:

  • Actinic keratosis
  • Basal cell carcinoma
  • Dermatofibroma
  • Melanoma
  • Nevus
  • Pigmented benign keratosis
  • Seborrheic keratosis
  • Squamous cell carcinoma
  • Vascular lesion

Conclusion

As the accuracy of the model increases, the loss decreases. The final model has an accuracy of 87% and a loss of 0.3. The model is able to predict the class of the lesion with a high accuracy. Augmenting the data and countering class imbalance helped in improving the accuracy of the model.
