The bookinfo sample fails when applying route rules with the following error:

routerules.config.istio.io "debug" is forbidden: User "system:anonymous" cannot get routerules.config.istio.io in the namespace "default"

This might possibly be due to the Heptio Authenticator for AWS requiring kubectl v1.10+. Follow status of this issue and related PR. Can also verify this as a temporary work-around.

Also i noticed i get PENDING and not LOCALHOST with ingressgateway...
but even before that the POD is erroring out..
