illegal-mod-sites's Issues

Evaluation of MCPE Universe

Reported on IRC as hosting "bad old versions, for versions that are old", will look into seeing if it infringes any copyright. Needs a review, claims to be a community site.

resourcepack net

A resource pack re-posting website, shows classic illegal mod site signs.
I would take precautions before downloading anything.

PROCEED WITH CAUTION
Link: resourcepack.net
~zxin

CraftHD.net

Link -> http://www.crafthd.net/
It's currently not blacklisted, and it redistributes tons of mods (Including mine), and more.
My AdBlock says it blocked 2 ads in one page.
Didn't found much information at all, so not much misleading info.
Thanks.

New site to add: minecraft-wiki com

As I stated on the forum, minecraft-wiki com redirects the user to a fake website scam. Norton (and other systems, I know Norton might not count) have warned me again and again. Please add this site under the note: Malware Alert!

Request For Plain Text List

Can you please include a plain text list of all the websites on separate lines so they can be inputted into a 3rd party website blocker extension of my choice?

http://popularmmos.com

offers download links that are not from the original author and does not give credit to author

minecraftyard.com

It appears that minecraftyard.com reposts especially popular mods (including - but not limited to - Minecraft Comes Alive, TooManyItems and the GLSL Shaders Mod), resource packs (for example Sphax' PureBDCraft and Misa's Realistic Resource Pack) and Minecraft Forge.

Most (if not all) pages on minecraftyard.com...

  • contain faked mod banners and screenshots with "MinecraftYard.com" added to them,
  • provide download links to files mirrored on their own server or AdF.ly links that are not the official ones,
  • do not credit the respective owners,
  • contain few ads (according to AdBlock Plus at least one per page),
  • advertise the reposted mod as compatible with the latest versions (such as Forge mods for 1.9, ha ha) and
  • provide outdated versions.

I personally do not own any of the mentioned mods/resource packs, but at least for Minecraft Comes Alive, I can assure that all above claims but the very first are true.

Modpacks?

Should we add sites redistributing modpacks (with permission from all mod authors, but not the pack author) to the list?

What is the known good mod source?

I was led to the website and consequently this repository by a link on the below Forge forum.
http://www.minecraftforge.net/forum/index.php/topic,41463.0.html?PHPSESSID=5a4ba66gl0cm7dpldv906mtt61

I'm glad this list exists but is it possible to list the known good source(s) on either the website or, if there are a few, then in a table similar to the known bad sources?

A friend asked me to put together a modpack for him but I'm not sure where to get the mods. The list makes it clear which sites to avoid but where should I go to get the mods?

Possible site to add.

So, there is this site: www minecraftfreemods net
I looked around and there are mods such as Railcraft, Thermal Expansion, VoxelMap and a slew of others, most unknown to me.
Oddly, some are adfly links (which in case of Railcraft don't match the addresses at RC site, so I refuse to go in there) some have mediafire, some have no links at all.
I don't know how to properly check for malware in mods so can't tell you that.
They have at least one account on Minecraft forum trying to ask for permission in broken English(twice so far, seemingly at the same time) but I don't think that's anything positive.

REpeat

xn--2-8sbausglk2acux xn--p1ai = 2ะผะฐะนะฝะบั€ะฐั„ั‚ะตั€.ั€ั„. Also i see GIANT lags at this site (ads, of course)

www.worldofmods.com is redistrubuting my mod.

I created a mod called Basic Ingame Gui (Curseforge link for people interested). Then, while doing some research. I found this site redistrubuting my mod.

I currently don't know if they make money or not (they probably do). But it's pissing me off that there is a lot of sites that redistrubutes mods without permission.

You can see the stolen link here.

Also, i JUST updated the mod. It fixed a crash when joining servers. But since they are distrubuting an old version, people will find from that site, download it and complain to... I don't know, they didn't put any links to contact me.

The only thing i care right now is the Google searches wich show the original link. Updated and supported.

UPDATE: After disabling Adblock for a second or so, i saw a lot of ads. So they ARE monetizing. Now, I'm going to try to contact them to see if i can do some stuff about this.

Auto-generate JSON and TXT

I can set up a PHP script on my server that grabs the markdown version of the list from GitHub and auto-generates a JSON or text file based on it. I figure this may save us a lot of time because we'd only have to update one file instead of three, and it allows us to extend to new formats like XML or even NBT. Plus, it can be queried directly from clients that need this data, and it will always be up to date. Thoughts, @VictiniX888, @coolsquid ?

Suggestion: Discontinue JSON, TXT from repository to redelegate them to an external API service

4minecraft.com

I was going to make a PR for this entry, however I wasn't sure what files I need to edit. There were three site files, however the json and txt versions don't seem to be updated so frequently. I would appreciate it if someone could explain which files to edit so I can do that in the future. Now, onto 4minecraft.com....

The site has a lot of advertising, including ads which open up into new tabs. I recently got an add which attempted to install spyware on my system, and attempted to phish my information. (It also tried to make my screen BSOD but it failed miserably. Images below :p). Because of this, I would give a 5 for advertising.

The site seems to have posts generated by the user base, along with posts made by the site team. They majority of the stolen mods seem to be from the site themselves, as the download links use their own domain, however I could not find a link which pointed to an unofficial source. There were some downloads which point to sites like mediafire, so it is difficult to confirm whether or not they're actually redistributing the mods. I would like to give the site a 2 for redistribution however based on the guidelines it might be a 1.

The site gives credit to the original author, and the versions are mostly correct. It does bypass the original posters ad wall in some situations, and almost all of their downloads are not up to speed with the original source. I would give it a 2 for misc although I think it deserves a +1 for all the horrible ads, adware and spyware. It also blocks adblock users.

image

Edit: Over the course of writing this report, I have encountered several ads like the one in the image above. I think that adware/spyware/malware should be included in the extra info section for this site. The site also serves ads which are not family safe (affair ads, sex ads and so on). I don't know if that's something this list cares about documenting, if it is I think that this should also be noted in the extra info section.

FDMINECRAFT.NET

Link -> http://fdminecraft.net/
It's currently not blacklisted, and it redistributes tons of mods (Including mine), and more.
My AdBlock says it blocked 6 ads in one page.
Didn't found misleading information.
Thanks.

Licence

What kind of licence should we use?

I suggest something that allows for redistribution as long as a link is provided to our website.

Sites Reposting My Mods

These two sites reposted my dessertcraft mod and put screenshots of a completely different mod! They also put direct download links instead of my links through AdFoc.us so I'm losing money. :(

http://www minecraft20 com/
http://minecraftsix com/

Also this site reposted my Obsidian Utilites mod but they put screenshots and videos from a completely different mod also! Also again direct downloads instead of through AdFoc.us The first site even said that my mod was for 1.8.3 but there is no forge for 1.8.3!

http://minecraftside com/
http://www minecraft18 org/

The following site is making money off of my Dessertcraft through AdFly. They also claim them self as the creator.

http://www minecraftdayly com/

This final website reposted my Obsidian Utilities mod taking credit for it and putting a direct download.

http://download-minecraftmods com/

www.minecraftyard.com

Seems to be redistributing mods and resourcepacks
Link

  • Advertising: 3 (2 to 3 advertisements per page)
  • Redistributing: 5
  • Misc:Original author is credited but not in an obious spot, Broken contact form, outdated mod versions & non-existent mod versions.

Seems to be made by someone called melissa

www.todocraft.net

Found this while looking for sites that have reposted one of my mods. Doesn't seem to actually give downloads, just redirects to shopping sites through adfly links.

ru-m.org

Old ru-m.org's addr - ru-minecraft.org. This site have malware (old 1.6 launcher, which blocks many sites via /etc/hosts)

Unlisted Site

minecraftsix.com

Edit: Nope. Not using redundant sites.

Russian Sites Stole My Map

http://ru-minecraft.ru/karty-dlja-minecraft/43078-pvp-karta-jpprb-custom-pvp.html

http://ru-m.org/karty-minecraft/13760-skachat-jpprb-custom-kit-pvp-dlya-minecraft.html

Here is one of my official uploads. http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/maps/2499775-jpprb-custom-kit-pvp As you can see the site with the working download watermarked my images and I cant read anything about it :( thanks for any possible help! -Raider
Note: It sucks even more because if people download from there they don't get the texture pack :(

Any non-Minecraft sites currently being accepted?

There are a lot of games out there that support mods made by the community besides Minecraft, and even for those games there are plenty of sites that illegally redistribute mods made by other sites. Sometimes they might even make their own mods that are incredibly low-quality (BeamNG.drive comes to mind as an example of a game suffering from these sites).

Any chance that these would be covered in the future for other games?

http://revozin.com/

Link -> http://revozin.com/
It's currently not blacklisted, and it redistributes about 200 of mods (Including mine), and more.
My AdBlock says it blocked 1 ad in one page.
Actually has some useful information, along original writing.
Thanks.

Minecraft 14

I should probably leave a PR, however I am too busy today to fully evaluate the site on my own. They don't seem to mirror downloads (the five downloads I checked were all valid), however they are still reposing various mod threads, and advertising on their download links. I haven't seen any malware on the site, As for advertising, there were only two ads, but they take up roughly 40% of the page, and when I was there, one of them had a naked woman, which isn't really appropriate for a site based on a game that is targeted at random children. This is what I would rate the site, based on my general impression.

minecraft14.com

Skydaz website

https://www.skydaz.com

Searching for a mod called "Helpful Villagers" I found it on this website as well.
I believe this website might be another repost of mods. Their links seems to guide to their own download links. (not 100% sure, didn't want to click the download links)
However, they do credit the actual modder and provide a link to the original thread but that doesn't really make any difference to me, still seems illegal. You agree or am I mistaken?

Evaluation of mcpedl

TODO: Evaluate mcpedl dot com. It was reported via IRC, haven't had the time to check it yet. Leaving here as a reminder for myself to do it tomorrow.

minecraft5 net

I was watching a Minecraft mod showcase then founded this illegal website: minecraft5 net.
I looked around and there are some mods like MineMenu, Gravity Gun, AnimalBikes Mod, etc.
And adfly links isn't redirects to official download link, is redirects to mediafire link.
Please check this illegal website and add it to blacklist.

(Sorry for my bad English)
