vcv-rack-sdk's Issues

Error when trying to build module on M1-based Mac

I installed all the dependencies, and when I type make, I get the following error:

/Users/sara/src/vcv/sdk/arch.mk:10: *** Could not determine CPU architecture of arm64-apple-darwin21.5.0. Try hacking around in arch.mk. Stop.

I did try what it suggested (specifically, forcing ARCH_x64 := 1 and ARCH_NAME := x64) and that gave me another error:

clang: error: the clang compiler does not support '-march=nehalem'

I realize that VCV Rack doesn't natively support Apple Silicon yet, but it works well through Rosetta, so I imagine there's a significant amount of people who use VCV Rack on Apple silicon-based hardware. With that in mind, I feel like it would be good if the build scripts could detect this and perform a cross-compile for Intel-based Macs (and, by extension, Rosetta 2), at least until VCV Rack natively supports Apple silicon.

EDIT: In hindsight, it makes sense that my workaround didn't work, as it wouldn't know to use the cross compiler. If I do get it working, I'll post instructions here, but I still think it ought to be automatic.
