๐Ÿ“ Description

The Windows USB/DVD Download tool allows you to create a copy of your Windows 7/8 ISO file on a USB flash drive or a DVD. To create a bootable DVD or USB flash drive, download the ISO file and then run the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool. Once this is done, you can install Windows 7 or Windows 8 directly from the USB flash drive or DVD.

The ISO file contains all the Windows installation files combined into a single uncompressed file. When you download the ISO file, you need to copy it to some medium in order to install Windows. This tool allows you to create a copy of the ISO file to a USB flash drive or a DVD. To install Windows from your USB flash drive or DVD, all you need to do is insert the USB flash drive into your USB port or insert your DVD into your DVD drive and run Setup.exe from the root folder on the drive.

Note: You cannot install Windows from the ISO file until you copy it to a USB flash drive or DVD with the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool and install from there.

The copy of the ISO file that the Windows USB/DVD Download tool creates is bootable. Bootable media allows you to install Windows 7 without having to first run an existing operating system on your machine. If you change the boot order of drives in your computer's BIOS, you can run the Windows 7 installation directly from your USB flash drive or DVD when you turn on your computer. Please see the documentation for your computer for information on how to change the BIOS boot order of drives.

[24312] Remove '7' from name. {copied from codeplex}

Find it a bit confusing that the tool is called Windows 7 * when it's supposed to work with Windows 8 as well. Maybe an idea to remove that number from the name or something?

[400539] Invalid ISO {copied from codeplex}

Hello,
I have downloaded the software, but it shows a message of error saying

The selected file is not a valid ISO file.
Please select a valid ISO file and try again

I have tried another ISO file but it still shows the same message.

[63574] No source code {copied from codeplex}

The source code tab only seems to have build process templates.
Sadly the source is a "download" binary/zip.
The developers of this tool should learn more about OSS.
Since CodePlex was built for open source, where is the rest of the tool - or should this tool be hosted on the Download Center instead?

[235472] Any ISO to bootable USB {copied from codeplex}

This worked fine, when I tried installing Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate, choosing the option to copy files to usb.
Then why you are promoting this tool particularly for windows 7, rather it's a tool for any iso to autorun USB. Worked like mounting a image

[278551] Unable to Copy Files\ error after format in step 4" {copied from codeplex}

I can't seem to get past an "Unable to Copy Files" error after the format part of step 4. Any ideas?
The ISO burned to DVD*R failed to boot on my machine for some reason (will try DVD-R if I have to next) but I had a 4GB USB flash drive on hand and figured
I'd give this a whack first. I also tried the bug filed on extracting bootsect.exe and copying it to the tool's dir, and it didn't help at all.

[401008] Works with Windows 8 but not Server 2012 Essentials {copied from codeplex}

Hey Guys,
I've been using this tool for a while now, doing lots of Win7 installs and a couple of Win8 instsalls.
But I've just tried with Server 2012 Essentials Edition and I get an errors stating that bootsect was unable to make the USB stick bootable.
Anyone else hit this?
Thanks
Craig
Update: Ignore me, I'm being a muppet.
Forgot that when copying x64 based ISO's to USB on an x86 based machine you need bootsect installed...

[233693] Compile using Visual Studio Express Edition {copied from codeplex}

Hello,
I would like to know if it's possible to compile the source code using Visual Studio Express Edition?
I've tried a bit and always complain about modules not available (IWrapper, ISOTool and dmicons).
If yes, which version should I use and how can I do it (no need a full howto, just basic about how making the modules needed available)
I want to compile it myself because I want to remove the restriction on USB HDD device.
Thanks

[65216] Bug report: "not a valid ISO file" {copied from codeplex}

I can use Microsoft's ISO-burning software to write "Memtest86-5.0.0" to a CD-R,
but when I select this file and click 'Next', I get "not a valid ISO file".
Same symptoms for "MaxBlast5.iso".
Both files are well under 0.5 GB, and my target USB-drive is 4GB.

Error-message: "not a valid ISO file", as per attached picture.

[65335] Home page links are broken {copied from codeplex}

[22718] We were unable to copy your files. Please check your USB device and the selected ISO file and try again. {copied from codeplex}

This error happens when the USB stick already have something in its MBR, which WUDT doesn't CLEAR.
The workaraund (proposed in this post http://4sysops.com/archives/windows-7-usbdvd-download-tool-wudt-is-unable-to-copy-files/ ) is to use the diskpart utility to issue the clean command on the disk, which cleans the MBR.
It works!
The commands are:

diskpart
list disk
select disk #
clean
create partition primary
select partition 1
active
format quick fs=fat32\nassign\nexit

[17777]bootsect.exe issue {copied from codeplex}

Apparently, if you download a 64bit iso to a 32bit OS and try to 'burn' the USB (or DVD?) boot image. it will fail. The 'fix' according the MS Store sight is to download a copy of bootsect.exe from within your account at the store and save it to the folder where the tool resides. The problem is that you must have purchased Win7 from the Store to get the file.
If you downloaded it from any other source (e.g., TechNetPlus) the file is unavailable to you.
It is possible to find it in at least one location on the Web. It ought to be available on Codeplex and/or TechNetPlus (at least).",
