Messages can only be handled if app is started

Unfortunately, the app has to be started all the time. If it is terminated and a notification gets send to your device, the app will show you the following message: "Application Error" "Messages can only be handled if app is started.". The reason for this is that I do not know how to store the notification into the same file as the others when the context of the application is destroyed. I am new to Android development and did not find anything in this direction. I opened a Stackoverflow question a while ago but did not get any response. If you know how I can tackle this problem, please let me know (or if you know an Android developer that can answer this question).

The only "quick" solution I saw was to make the file in which the notifications are stored read/writable by everyone. This way the service is allowed to write to the same file. But this is not really a solution for the problem because any other app on the device can also access the notifications this way.

Cheers,
sqall

Help with modifying this app to be self-hosted

Hi there!

I am interested in forking/modifying this Android app such that I could use my own Firebase account and/or my own server to do the push notifications. I am hoping you could help me with this.

I am just looking for a head start, I don't need you to walk me through it. Just a quick overview of what API I need on my own server (instead of your alertR.de server) and what needs changed in the alertR Android app (presumably it is hard-coded to your Firebase account).

This is great work! Thank you!
