SproutCore 2: For Native-Caliber Web Apps

Sproutcore 2 no longer support the Abbot Buildtools which has been replaced by the new Node.js Build Tools.

SproutCore is a JS-MVC framework for building blazing-fast, native-caliber web applications. SproutCore's full-stack approach to single-page application development gives you the tools you need to build rich, powerful applications... which happen to run in the browser.

Getting Started

The easiest way to get started with SproutCore is to install the Ruby gem. You can find instructions here. Once you've got SproutCore installed, checkout the Getting Started tutorial.

"SproutCore Bash 2011" banner should be removed from blog sidebar.

It's a bit out of date.

SproutCore should have a community Google calendar

Apparently our current calendar is populated via hard-coded JS array on the page. We should widgetize it instead.

Copyright is out of date and owned by a dead company.

Let's just remove the notice (see comment below).

License?

What is the license for this website? I love the theme and would be interested in porting it over to DocPad

Showcase is down

Just in case you didn't notice, showcase app seem to be down

Home page carousel is borked.

New items enter from the left while old items depart to the left.

Add some kind of 'labs' page

I'm not sure 'labs' would be the best name for it. But I think it would be really great if we had a page that listed, and maybe showed screenshots, of 3rd party SproutCore frameworks that were out there. A few examples might be:

jslewis Table
Endash Table

Add a FAQ page.

Let's use this Issue to compile questions that are frequently asked. Once there's a critical mass, I'll tidy them up and integrate them into the site. Please add your own!

Deprecated Mac Installation Instructions

The Mac installation instructions are currently telling users to use a deprecated method of installing rvm and ruby.

"About SproutCore" copy is explaining RIAs to 2007.

We should probably update with a meaningful discussion of when you choose SproutCore over other options.

Confirm existing/add new consulting companies to the Contact Us tab.

The Contact Us tab currently has three consulting companies listed, and I'm only about 75% sure that 1 of them is actually still doing consulting.

Can we confirm which ones are doing it and add any new ones?

Once I have an official company, I'm happy to add it to the page as well.

Events tab should be populated.

Anyone know how this is populated? (@publickeating?) I imagine the Wednesday meetings would be a great start.

Active ribbon tabs are ugly.

See http://sproutcore.com/about/ - the ribbon itself is very nice but the tab is inexplicably flat, white and off-center.

The front page carousel's third item is out of date.

WWDC 2011. I assume we don't need four things in the carousel so this should be a simple excision.
