Everything is working fine now, even with 3.1.51.
No idea what was wrong, seems it was just a disturbance in the force (tm).

Not sure what I can do with this info. Not having this issue myself and all tests are still passing.

It worked with <=3.1.50 for months, 3.1.51 seemed to change something with file extension detection ?

In this package nothing changed detection wise. Perhaps in php spreadsheet, but than it this package version wouldn't matter.
Anyway you could create a reproduction file and code? As simple as possible.

You could try to execute PhpOffice\PhpSpreadsheet\IOFactory::identify($absolutePath) on the file yourself and see if it's PhpSpreadsheet who changed something in regarding to your file no longer being valid.
