locales's Introduction

Description

This cookbook configures the available and default locales on a debian-like-system. It also includes a LWRP for easy use in other cookbooks.

Limitation

Right now the cookbook only works with UTF-8 locales.

Requirements

None

Attributes

node['locales']['default'] -- the default locale to be installed. Defaults to "en_US.utf8".

Usage

Either use the node-attributes or the included LWRP "locales".

locales "de_AT.utf8" do
  action :add
end

locales "Add locales" do
  locales ["fr_FR.utf8", "fr_BE.utf8", "fr_CA.utf8"]
end

locales "ru_RU.utf8" do
  action :set
end

In Ubuntu is not guaranteed that /var/lib/locales/supported.d/local exists

I've run into this problem when trying to provision a docker container from scratch.
It seems that the /var/lib/locales/supported.d/local file is loaded by PAM but PAM is not invoked when using the docker container.

I wonder if we can force the PAM to be invoked?

Some work have been done here on locales cookbook, can you give rights on supermarket to push new version?

I also add you in locales team to work together. :)
